Eeco and Ertiga debut in Top 10 selling PVs

Maruti Eeco & Ertiga

For the first time Maruti Suzuki’s MPV Ertiga and Eeco Van have entered in the elite list of Top 10 passenger vehicles (PV) in the first half of this fiscal year, as per the data collated from the industry and published in the media.

Eeco and Ertiga are the only two passenger vehicles which are in the positive territory of domestic sales among top 10 selling PVs, securing sixth and tenth position respectively. Apart from Ertiga and Eeco, top-selling passenger vehicles registered a decline in sales in H1 2019.

Launched in November 2018, the second generation Ertiga has been able to attract buyers from the personal segment with the introduction of AMT and CNG variants. The company sold a total of 48,411 units, up by whooping 78.79 per cent when compared to 27,077 units in the same period last year.

It is to note that the exponential growth in the sales of Ertiga is primarily because the company had slated the launch of new generation of Ertiga in November 2018 due to which most of the customers deferred their purchases.

Apart from this, Ertiga has also been able to cater to both personal and commercial buyers with Ertiga and Ertiga M (only sold to fleet operators) model which has boosted their sales, industry experts.

Similarly, in the van segment Maruti Suzuki sold 59,679 units of Eeco in H1 2019, registering a growth of 28.91 percent when compared to 42,421 units in the same period of last fiscal year.

Among the top-selling passenger vehicles in India, Maruti Suzuki now claims eight positions with Dzire, Alto, Swift, Baleno, Wagon R, Eeco, Vitara Brezza and Ertiga. While Hyundai Motor India could only secure two position with Elite i20 and Grand i10. Hyundai’s top-selling utility vehicle Creta could not make it to the list this time.
