Ford Fiesta

FORD Motors India backed by the success of its mid-size sedan- Fiesta launched new stylish ‘Fiesta Classic’. The new Fiesta is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol variant with a 1.6-litre engine would be immediately available at Rs. 5.58 lakh, while the diesel variant with a 1.4-litre engine would be available at Rs. 6.05 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). The Ford Fiesta Classic would be available in three variants — the LXI, CLXI and SXI. Mr Michael Boneham, managing director and president, Ford India said, "With a proud and loyal customer base, the Fiesta has been one of the main stays of our product brand portfolio in India. With the elegant Fiesta Classic’s thrilling on-road dynamics, refreshingly classy new interiors and proven frugality we invite more customers to experience and benefit from the additional new variants we are offering with our classy product."  Mr Boneham reiterated that the new Fiesta Classic would not clash with the Global Fiesta, which is expected to be out soon in the middle of this year. He added the new Fiesta Classic would be a ‘branding product’ for India, whose automobile market was growing by 31 per cent year-on-year.  With production at its Indian plant at Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai expected to saturate soon, Ford India is mulling further investment to expand capacity, said a top company official. "We will make an announcement on further investment soon. We have room at our existing location for expansion," Mr Boneham said.  Ford India currently has a vehicle plant with a capacity to roll out 200,000 units per annum and an engine plant working on three shifts rolling out 250,000 units per annum. Working in double shifts, the company hopes to touch a production capacity of around 150,000 by the end of this calendar year, Mr Boneham said. Further, the company had announced launch of eight new models by 2015, necessitating increase in capacity.  Ford India Executive Director Mr Nigel E Wark said later that they have not "stripped off" any features from the present Fiesta. He said, "This product is focused on (car) boot lovers." On their growth plans, he said between March, 2010, and March, 2011, they witnessed a growth of 15 per cent last year.  The new Fiesta Classic retains its core characteristics of surefooted balance on the road, responsive steering and compliant suspension. Its reputation as a driver’s car is enhanced by its refined, trusty and proven 1.6 Duratec and 1.4 Duratorq powertrains, which deliver on the optimum mix of gripping performance and frugal fuel consumption.
