Honda Activa

Honda Activa has become the top-selling two-wheeler in the Indian two-wheeler market by going past other brands in the entry-level 100cc segment for twice in FY-2013-14. The model had also recorded highest sales figures in September 2013.

The Activa clocked sales of 1,79,956 units in March 2014 recording a 65 per cent YoY growth. The scooter had sold 108,815 units sold in March 2013. Speaking about it, Mr Yadvinder S. Guleria, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said, “We are excited that Activa has once again become the highest selling two-wheeler of India in March 2014 after September 2013. This clearly indicates that it is exponentially getting acceptance as the most preferred choice of two-wheeler for commuting in the country. We are proud to share that Activa is now strongly making inroads in tier-2 towns and beyond. The success of revolutionary HET in our automatic scooters is further reaffirming Honda as the technology and mileage leader in automatic scooter segment.”

One of the biggest factors working in the Activa’s favour is its ability to cater to both male and female riders. The company is planning to launch the bigger version of the scooter with the 125cc engine in the next few weeks. It hopes to bank on the popularity of the current model to garner sales for the new 125cc two-wheeler.

In FY 2001-02, Honda launched its first product - Activa and the rest is history. Backed by it, automatic scooter sales of the company skyrocketed 515 per cent to 3.41 lakh units in FY 2003-04. A decade later, the legacy has only strengthened as more and more families, including increasing numbers of new female riders are choosing the brand.
