Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC)

The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has decided to return newly-purchased buses to Tata Motors after a team of Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) found glitches in the design of gear levers of the new buses, said a national daily report.

Mr Ranveer Singh, MD of UTC, told the daily that the CRT team found that the design of gear levers of the newly-purchased buses was faulty and hence, was causing inconvenience to the drivers.

"The team of CIRT has pointed out some objections in gear levers of the new buses. They have to be fixed. We will be sending back all the new buses to Tata Motors. When the company gets done with the upgrade of the new buses, we will get them inspected from CIRT again. Only then, we will allow the buses to ply," he told the newspaper.

Interestingly, said the report, the same buses manufactured by Tata Motors were sold to Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh transport corporations as well.

UTC had announced to purchase 300 new buses by the end of this year. In the first phase, around 150 buses were added to the fleet. In October, the state Transport Minister, Mr Yashpal Arya, had launched 20 new buses from Haldwani but soon several developed glitches.
