Tata Punch achieves 2 lakh production milestone in 19 months

The Tata Punch is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron engine that produces 85 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque. The micro-SUV has 26 variants and eight colour options.

Tata Motors has announced that the micro SUV Punch has crossed the two lakh production milestone in the country in just 19 months since its introduction. Currently the most affordable SUV offering in Tata Motors’ line-up in India, the Punch was introduced as a high-riding alternative to similarly priced hatchbacks – and it surely seems like the trick worked well for the company.

Despite its small overall size, the Tata Punch sits fairly high, and is a tall car. For reference, the Punch is actually even taller than the Nexon! That said, the micro SUV features a modern and butch design with a split-headlamp setup at the front, plastic cladding all around, squared wheel arches and faux roof rails.

Powering the Tata Punch is a sole 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 86 PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque, available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an optional AMT. Tata Motors is also in the works of introducing a CNG option for the micro SUV soon, with a unique twin-cylinder technology to free up more boot space as compared to a single larger CNG cylinder.

Pricing for the Punch currently starts from INR 6 lakh and goes all the way up to INR 9.52 lakh (exshowroom). The SUV puts up against the likes of Citroen C3, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger in the country. Tata Punch will soon also get a new rival in the form of the upcoming Hyundai Exter, set to be launched in the coming months.
