Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) today unveiled the all-new Hilux, marking the world premiere of the Hilux BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) in Asia. This milestone event, held by Toyota Motor Asia (TMA) in Bangkok, underscores Toyota’s global commitment to its multi-pathway approach — developing diverse powertrains including BEVs, FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles), and clean diesel models to achieve a carbon-neutral society.
The new Hilux lineup represents Toyota’s vision of providing “Mobility for All”, offering customers in every region solutions tailored to local needs, infrastructure, and energy conditions.
Toyota’s Multi-Pathway Approach to Carbon Neutrality
Toyota continues to lead the industry with its multi-pathway carbon-neutral strategy, focusing on product- and region-centered management. Rather than a one-size-fits-all solution, Toyota is introducing a range of electrified mobility options — including BEVs, FCEVs, and efficient internal combustion engines — to meet the diverse energy realities of different countries.
With the new Hilux, Toyota expands this approach by confirming that an FCEV Hilux will follow, set for launch in Europe and Oceania in 2028. The diesel version will be introduced in Japan by mid-2026, while the Hilux BEV will roll out across Asia starting in 2026.

A Legacy of Strength: The Hilux Story
Since its debut in 1968, the Toyota Hilux has become a symbol of strength, quality, and durability worldwide. Its evolution over nine generations reflects Toyota’s deep connection with customers — listening to the needs of farmers, families, builders, and adventurers alike.
The IMV (Innovative International Multi-Purpose Vehicle) project, launched in 2004 under the leadership of Akio Toyoda, made Hilux a truly global vehicle. It also marked the beginning of Toyota’s enduring partnership with Thailand, a key production and innovation hub for the company.
During the premiere, Simon Humphries highlighted Toyota’s strong relationship with Thailand, built over 60 years of mutual trust and innovation: “What we have achieved here is proof that global success comes from local strength,” Humphries said.
“The Hilux represents not just mobility, but opportunity — empowering communities and connecting people across every continent.” He emphasized Toyota’s philosophy of “Best in Town”, where success stems from local collaboration and respect for regional culture.
In a symbolic celebration of cultural exchange, Hakuho Sho, the world’s most successful sumo wrestler and a Toyota ambassador, joined the event. Representing both Japan and Mongolia, Hakuho shared his thoughts on discipline, cultural unity, and global collaboration: “Sumo is about purity — not only physical strength but also mental strength,” Hakuho remarked. “Just as Toyota brings Japanese craftsmanship to the world, I hope to share sumo’s spirit globally.”
The 9th-generation Hilux represents Toyota’s ongoing evolution — shaped by roads, engineers, and the voices of customers. With the BEV, diesel, and upcoming FCEV variants, Toyota continues to ensure no customer and no region is left behind on the road to carbon neutrality.
As Toyota Chief Branding Officer Simon Humphries concluded: “Each generation of Hilux has evolved, but its promise is unchanged — Hilux is a partner for life.”
