TVS leads Indian Electric 2-W market in first half of December; Industry crosses 1.2 mn units in CY2025

India’s electric two-wheeler market crossed 1.2 million units in CY2025, with TVS Motor leading sales in early December as the industry heads towards a record 1.25 million units.

The Indian electric two-wheeler (e-2W) industry crossed the 1.2 million units mark for the first time in the first half of December 2025, delivering 47,205 e-scooters, e-motorcycles, and e-mopeds between December 1-15. Although slightly slower compared to previous months, this trend is attributed to new buyers postponing purchases to 2026.

With 16 days still remaining in the month, December could yet become the highest-ever month for e-2W sales, surpassing 75,950 units delivered in December 2023. Cumulative sales from January 1 to December 15 stand at 12,29,356 units, up 7% YoY, pointing towards a record 1.25 million units in CY2025.

TVS Motor Co Retains No.1 Position

TVS Motor Co continues to lead the e-2W market with 13,297 units, maintaining its top position after regaining it from Bajaj Auto in November. TVS is the only manufacturer to surpass 10,000 units in the first half of December, ahead of Bajaj Auto by 3,773 units.

While the iQube remains the company’s mainstay, TVS has begun a phased rollout of the Orbiter e-scooter. Priced at ₹99,900 ex-showroom Bengaluru (inclusive of PM E-Drive subsidies), the Orbiter features a 3.1 kWh battery pack, a top speed of 68 km/h, and an IDC range of 158 km, making it suitable for urban commuting. The rollout has begun in Karnataka and is expanding to Maharashtra.

Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy

Bajaj Auto delivered 9,524 Chetak e-scooters during the period. The Pune-based OEM, which also sells Yulu e-scooters, is preparing to launch a new model in early CY2026, which may have led some buyers to defer purchases. Bajaj Auto now operates 390 exclusive Chetak stores and 4,000 points of sale across 800 cities.

Ather Energy retained its No.3 position, selling 8,376 e-scooters, 1,148 units behind Bajaj. Strong demand for the Rizta family—which recently crossed 200,000 cumulative units—and high-range variants of the 450S and 450X boosted sales. The Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option reduced the upfront price of the Rizta S to ₹76,000, improving affordability and market reach.

Hero MotoCorp and Ola Electric

Hero MotoCorp, now ranked No.4, delivered 5,418 units and has consistently sold over 10,000 e-2Ws per month for six consecutive months, powered by demand for the Vida VX2 model.

Ola Electric, at No.5, delivered 3,079 units. The company has begun deliveries of vehicles equipped with its indigenously manufactured 4680 Bharat Cell battery packs, making the S1 Pro+ the first Indian scooter with domestically produced cells, giving Ola complete control over cell and battery pack production.

Emerging OEMs

Greaves Electric Mobility (GEM/Ampere) retained the No.6 spot with 1,939 units, driven by models such as Nexus, Magnus Neo, and Grand, surpassing 250,000 cumulative sales.

Other emerging OEMs in the Top 10 include:

  • Bgauss Auto – 7th with 894 units (RUV 350, Max C12)
  • River EV (formerly River Mobility) – 8th with 857 units (River Indie)
  • Quantum Energy – 9th with 375 units (Bziness XS with Indofast Energy)
