Toyota dispatches 45 units of Urban Cruiser Ebella EV in India during May 2026

Toyota Kirloskar Motor dispatched 45 units of the Urban Cruiser Ebella in May 2026, marking the wholesale debut of its first electric SUV in India. Available with up to 543 km of range, the EV competes in the rapidly growing midsize electric SUV segment.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) dispatched 45 units of the Urban Cruiser Ebella in May 2026, marking the wholesale debut of the company’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the Indian market. According to passenger vehicle wholesale data released by SIAM, the Ebella accounted for 0.14 percent of Toyota’s total passenger vehicle sales of 30,560 units during the month, which included 27,170 utility vehicles.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is Toyota’s version of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and enters the growing electric SUV segment alongside rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, VinFast VF 6, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Tata Curvv EV. The model is currently available in three variants – E1, E2, and E3.

Toyota has so far announced pricing only for the top-spec E3 variant equipped with the larger 61kWh battery pack. The variant is priced at ₹23.60 lakh (ex-showroom), while the on-road price stands at ₹25.05 lakh. Like the Maruti e-Vitara, the Ebella is also offered with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, allowing customers to reduce the initial purchase cost.

The Urban Cruiser Ebella is available with two battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. The entry-level E1 variant is paired with the smaller battery, while the E2 and E3 variants feature the larger 61kWh unit. Both configurations use a front-mounted electric motor, with an ARAI-certified driving range of between 440 km and 543 km on a single charge.

Toyota has differentiated the Ebella from its Maruti counterpart through revised styling elements, including redesigned LED headlamps, a unique front bumper, and distinct rear lighting details. Inside, the cabin closely mirrors the e-Vitara, featuring a dual-tone black-and-brown interior theme, a two-spoke steering wheel, vertically positioned air vents, and a floating centre console.

Feature highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, wireless smartphone connectivity, JBL premium audio system, ventilated front seats, powered driver seat, wireless charger, connected car technology, ambient lighting, and automatic climate control.

On the safety front, the Ebella comes equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, traction control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, hill-hold assist, rain-sensing wipers, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). While the Ebella’s Bharat NCAP rating is yet to be announced, its sibling, the Maruti e-Vitara, has secured a five-star safety rating.

Industry observers will be watching closely to see whether sales volumes improve in the coming months, particularly after Toyota announces pricing for the E1 and E2 variants. Competitive pricing across the lineup could help strengthen the company’s EV presence as it continues to expand its footprint in India’s fast-growing passenger vehicle market.
