Škoda Superb marks 25 years of comfort, space and technology

Škoda Superb celebrates 25 years since its modern debut, with nearly 1.8 million vehicles delivered worldwide across four generations and the latest model offering petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Škoda Auto is celebrating 25 years of the modern Škoda Superb, a model that has become synonymous with comfort, spaciousness, practicality and advanced technology. Since its modern debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 11 September 2001, nearly 1.8 million Superb vehicles have been delivered worldwide across four generations, making the model an important pillar of Škoda’s international growth.

The fourth-generation Superb continues this legacy with the widest powertrain portfolio in the model’s history. The current line-up includes petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with two plug-in hybrid variants offering an electric range of around 120 kilometres.

“For 25 years, the Superb has been winning over private and fleet customers alike. With nearly 1.8 million vehicles delivered to customers worldwide across four generations, it has become one of the key pillars of Škoda’s success story. Today, well over half of all Superb vehicles are delivered as company cars. Across four generations, we have continued to develop the model while staying true to what our customers value most: generous space, comfort, practicality and modern technology. The latest generation carries these strengths forward with liftback and Combi estate body styles and the broadest powertrain portfolio in the model’s history, ranging from petrol and diesel engines to mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options,” said Martin Jahn, Škoda Auto Board Member for Sales and Marketing.

The Return of a Legendary Name

The Superb name has a history that stretches back much further than the modern model. In 1934, Škoda gave the nickname Superb to the modernised Škoda 640. Various Superb models were subsequently produced in several body styles until 1949, representing the pinnacle of the company’s technical capabilities at the time.

More than five decades later, Škoda revived the iconic name with the introduction of the first modern-generation Superb in 2001. With its exceptional rear-seat space, wide choice of engines and generous equipment levels, the model marked Škoda’s return to the mid-size vehicle segment.

Four Generations of Progress

The first modern-generation Superb established the core attributes that continue to define the model today, including comfort, spaciousness, practicality and elegant design.

The second-generation Superb, launched in 2008, introduced the innovative TwinDoor rear-opening system. The range was subsequently expanded with the popular Combi estate body style and all-wheel-drive variants, further increasing the model’s versatility.

The third-generation Superb, unveiled in 2015, brought a significant technological advancement. It introduced enhanced connectivity, a wider range of driver-assistance systems and a more distinctive design language.

In 2019, the Superb reached another milestone by becoming Škoda’s first production model to be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, marking the brand’s further move towards electrification.

The fourth-generation Superb, introduced in 2023, builds on the model’s established strengths with further improvements in comfort, safety and digitalisation. Its redesigned interior features Škoda Smart Dials, while customers can choose from petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Nearly 1.8 Million Superb Vehicles Delivered Worldwide

Since the launch of the first modern-generation Superb in 2001, nearly 1.8 million vehicles have been delivered to customers worldwide.

The model has played a significant role in Škoda’s international expansion, helping strengthen the brand’s presence across Europe and other global markets. Its combination of spaciousness, comfort, practicality and technology has allowed it to appeal to a diverse customer base.

The Superb has continued to attract both private and fleet buyers, with more than half of all current Superb vehicles being delivered as company cars. The model has also found applications among government institutions, public authorities and police forces in several countries.

After 25 years and four generations, the Škoda Superb continues to evolve while retaining the qualities that have defined the nameplate since its modern revival: space, comfort, practicality and technology.
