Polestar 5 Performance Grand Tourer officially unveiled

Starting at EUR 119,900 for the Dual motor and EUR 142,900 for the Performance model, the Polestar 5 features a bespoke bonded aluminium platform, in-house developed motor, and advanced 800V electrical system delivering up to 650 kW and 1,015 Nm. It offers sustainable materials, Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, premium standard features, and a luxurious 4+1 seating layout.

Polestar has officially revealed the Polestar 5, a sleek four-door performance Grand Tourer that brings the brand’s future vision to life. Evolved from the 2020 Precept concept, the Polestar 5 embodies the company’s commitment to cutting-edge design, advanced technology, and sustainability.

Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller stated: “Polestar 5 is bringing the future to our present. Our vision for design, technology, and sustainability is now a reality our customers can own. With its pure Scandinavian aesthetics, powerful electric motors, bespoke platform, and innovative use of sustainable materials, the Polestar 5 stands as a bold flagship and a beacon for the industry.”

Polestar 5 Design:

The Polestar 5 stays true to the 2020 Precept concept with a sleek, minimalist 5-meter-long Grand Tourer design inspired by aviation. Its aerodynamic silhouette features a low nose with SmartZone tech, signature dual-blade Pixel LED headlights, and a Kamm-style tail for improved airflow.

Key design highlights include:

  • A close bonnet-to-wheel relationship enabled by a unique front suspension setup
  • Gloss black or Shade cladding to visually lower the car’s 142 cm height
  • A massive panoramic glass roof (2m x 1.25m), offering a bright and spacious cabin
  • Digital rearview mirror and virtual rear window to maintain sleek lines without compromising rear headroom
  • Aero-enhancing rear lightbar, diffuser, flush glass, and retractable door handles, achieving a Cd of just 0.24

Offered in six colors, including two matte finishes—Storm (dark grey) and Magnesium (silver)—the Polestar 5 blends cutting-edge aerodynamics with Scandinavian design purity.

Head of Exterior Design Nahum Escobedo celebrates the transformation of the Precept concept into a faithful production reality, calling it a dream fulfilled.

Polestar 5 Interior:

The Polestar 5’s 4+1 seat electric GT cabin balances comfort and performance for both driver and passengers. Front Recaro seats offer a low hip-point with supportive bolstering, available in animal-welfare certified MicroTech or Bridge of Weir Nappa leather, featuring heating, ventilation, and massage functions.

Designed primarily as a four-seater, rear passengers control the four-zone climate and seat functions, with reclining seats matching the front design. Lowering the central armrest adds a fifth seat with extra shoulder space. A “foot garage” in the battery pack enhances rear footroom and seating comfort.

Sustainability is key, with natural fiber materials like Polestar’s signature flax-based weave and bio-based plastics used throughout. Recycled materials such as Econyl carpets and recycled PET headliners further reduce environmental impact.

The driver-focused cockpit features a reclined seating position, upright adjustable steering wheel, a 9-inch driver display mounted on the steering column, and a 9.5-inch head-up display for optimal visibility and control.

Polestar 5 Technology:

The Polestar 5 features a low center console with a lockable storage compartment and a rotary audio controller for its 14.5-inch portrait center display running a Polestar-specific Android Automotive OS with Google built-in. The customizable interface includes dynamic tiles and quick access to frequently used functions.

Audio options include a 10-speaker Polestar High Performance system or a premium 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup with Tweeter-on-Top technology and 1,680W output. Laser-line ambient lighting and Active Road Noise Cancellation enhance cabin comfort.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) are centered around the SmartZone sensor hub, supporting Pilot Assist for lane-keeping and speed control up to 150 km/h. The car is equipped with 11 vision cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors, eight airbags, and interior radars that detect occupant details to optimize safety in a crash.

Polestar Performance Architecture:

The Polestar 5 is built on a new lightweight, high-strength bonded aluminium platform called the Polestar Performance Architecture (PPA), offering torsional rigidity exceeding that of many sports cars. The structure uses 13% recycled aluminium and 83% aluminium from renewable sources, reducing its carbon footprint.

Key features include a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the chassis, compact front double wishbone suspension, lightweight Brembo brakes saving 12 kg, and steering rack positioned ahead of the front axle for better handling. The Dual motor model uses passive dampers, while the Performance version features adaptive MagneRide suspension that adjusts up to 1,000 times per second for optimal comfort and control.

Custom Michelin tires (20-22 inches) complete the performance package. Polestar CTO Lutz Stiegler praises the architecture for delivering exceptional driving dynamics, making the Polestar 5 a standout Grand Tourer.

Polestar 5 Powertrain:

The Polestar 5 features an in-house developed rear electric motor delivering up to 450 kW and 660 Nm, contributing to a total output of 650 kW and 1,015 Nm in the Performance model, which accelerates 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The Dual motor version produces 550 kW, reaching 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Both are electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Powered by an 800V electrical system, the Polestar 5 supports ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW, reaching 10-80% battery charge in about 22 minutes. An external C-pillar indicator shows charging status. The Dual motor offers up to 670 km WLTP range, while the Performance model achieves up to 565 km on a single charge.

Online orders for the Polestar 5 started on 8 September 2025 in all initial launch markets. Full specifications are available at https://www.polestar.com/polestar-5/configurator.
