Toyota Motor Corporation has unveiled the new Land Cruiser FJ, with its Japan launch scheduled for mid-2026. Originally introduced as the Toyota BJ in 1951, the Land Cruiser was the first vehicle to reach the sixth station of Mount Fuji. Since then, it has been dedicated to providing safety and reliability in the most challenging terrains—places only a Land Cruiser can access.
Built and refined through real-world global customer experience, the Land Cruiser continues to deliver unmatched durability, off-road capability, and peace of mind, allowing people to explore anywhere and return safely. With approximately 12.15 million units sold across over 190 countries and regions, the Land Cruiser remains a flagship Toyota model, developed and improved over more than 70 years to support lives and livelihoods worldwide.
Until now, the Land Cruiser lineup has comprised three distinct series: the Station Wagon, which features the latest technologies and serves as the flagship model (currently the 300 Series); the Heavy-Duty model, known for its exceptional durability and serviceability as a reliable workhorse (the 70 Series); and the core Land Cruiser introduced in 2024, designed as a return to the vehicle’s roots—a simple, rugged model that meets customers’ practical needs and lifestyle demands (the 250 Series).
With the addition of the new Land Cruiser FJ to the series, Toyota will provide new value in the form of “Freedom & Joy” that come from enjoying the Land Cruiser in your own way―while retaining the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that support people’s lifestyles. This stems from the desire to allow even more customers to enjoy the Land Cruiser, a vision made possible by the return to its origins with the 250 Series.
The Land Cruiser will continue to evolve to meet societal demands while supporting the lives of customers around the world and remaining a vehicle, they can trust.
Toyota will unveil the Land Cruiser FJ at its booth at Japan Mobility Show 2025 to be held from October 30 to November 9.
Three Key Features of the Land Cruiser FJ
The Land Cruiser FJ combines traditional and modern design in a functional package. Its exterior features a square, spacious cabin that reflects the model’s legacy of practicality, with a rectangular, robust body and chamfered edges for a strong yet fun appearance. Powerful bumpers and flared fenders emphasize stability, while removable, segmented bumpers enhance repairability and allow for easy customization.
Interior Design & Safety
The Land Cruiser FJ’s interior is designed for intuitive control and driving comfort, featuring a horizontal instrument panel, ergonomic controls, and a natural shift layout for easy operation. A low-set cowl and beltline enhance visibility for safer on- and off-road driving. Equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, the vehicle offers advanced safety features like the Pre-Collision Safety System, ensuring confident and enjoyable driving.
Performance & Capability
The Land Cruiser FJ delivers classic Land Cruiser off-road strength with compact agility. Built on the refined IMV platform, it offers excellent ground clearance, approach angles, and wheel articulation comparable to the 70 Series. Its shorter wheelbase enhances maneuverability and off-road mobility, while added underfloor braces and high body rigidity improve handling stability. Extensive off-road testing ensured the FJ meets Land Cruiser standards of reliability, durability, and performance.
Customization & Mobility
The Land Cruiser FJ offers extensive customization options to enhance adventure and personal style, including round headlights inspired by classic models, MOLLE panels for outdoor gear, and rugged exterior accessories reflecting its off-road heritage. Toyota is also developing the Land Hopper, an electric personal mobility vehicle designed for both people and cargo transport, enabling users to explore trails beyond the FJ’s reach and extend the joy of travel and adventure.
