Epsilon Carbon launches LNG- Powered Container Fleet for Carbon Black Freight for its Tyre Customers

LNG container trucks offer 20–25% lower CO₂ emissions, up to 90% less NOx, and nearly 100% reduction in particulate matter compared to diesel trucks. They also deliver 5–10% better fuel efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and costs. These benefits enhance the sustainability of tyre companies and support compliance with environmental regulations and customer demands.

Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a leading global producer of carbon black, has launched a dedicated fleet of six LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) powered container trucks marking a significant milestone in its journey toward sustainable and energy-efficient logistics. Introduced for carbon black freight to key tyre customers, the fleet aims to reduce logistics-led emissions while enhancing overall supply chain efficiency.

Compared to conventional diesel trucks, LNG containers will offer significant CO₂ emission reduction by 20–25% & up to 90% less nitrogen oxides (NOx), and ~100% fewer particulate matter (PM) emissions. In addition, LNG trucks typically achieve 5–10% better fuel efficiency, leading to lower fuel consumption and long-term cost benefits. This further strengthen the sustainability credentials of tire companies, while supporting compliance with evolving environmental regulations and customer expectations.

The adoption of LNG-powered fleet also contributes directly to Scope 3 emission reductions for Epsilon and its tyre customers. As downstream emissions fall under Scope 3, this initiative enables customers to include these sustainability gains in their own environmental reporting and carbon accounting. It reflects Epsilon’s growing focus on value chain decarbonization and collaborative climate action.

Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon Carbon, said, “India’s road logistics sector moves nearly 70% of domestic freight and plays a critical role in the economy. We believe the future of logistics must be both efficient and environmentally responsible. As a leader in the chemical industry, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. The launch of our LNG-powered fleet is a step towards cleaner, smarter freight movement and reflects our continued support for India’s Net Zero goals by 2070.”

Each truck in the fleet has an operational range of approximately 500 kilometers, making it well-suited for medium- and long-haul carbon black transportation. Epsilon plans to introduce more LNG container fleet based on customer demand & capacity utilization. This phased approach offers greater flexibility and strengthens the company’s commitment to decarbonizing logistics on a large scale.
