Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has reinforced its commitment to driver welfare by inaugurating a dedicated Physiotherapy and Primary Healthcare Clinic in Sangagiri, one of Tamil Nadu’s major trucking hubs.
Established in collaboration with Smile Foundation, the clinic is designed to benefit approximately 13,500 individuals, with more than 70 percent of the beneficiaries expected to be from the truck driver community.
The initiative underscores DICV’s focus on supporting truck drivers — the backbone of India’s logistics ecosystem — by prioritising their health and well-being. The company believes that healthier drivers contribute to safer roads, as improved physical and mental fitness enhances alertness, resilience, and reduces the likelihood of accidents.
The clinic also aims to address the lack of accessible healthcare services for truck drivers, who often face long working hours, irregular schedules, and physically demanding conditions. By providing physiotherapy and primary healthcare support, the initiative seeks to improve driver wellness while extending essential healthcare services to underserved communities in the region.
Truck drivers are the backbone of India’s logistics ecosystem, yet many struggle with untreated health issues such as musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, and lifestyle-related conditions. Studies indicate that a significant proportion of drivers experience health challenges but often delay seeking medical care until their conditions worsen. Through this initiative, DICV and Smile Foundation aim to shift this trend by enabling early intervention and preventive care.
The clinic will provide a comprehensive range of services, including physiotherapy, outpatient consultations, eye check-ups, preventive screenings, and referral support for advanced treatment. By addressing both immediate health concerns and long-term wellness, the program seeks to improve quality of life while reducing out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for drivers and their families.
Speaking on the initiative, Michael Moebius, President & Chief Procurement & Supply Chain Officer, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles said, “At DICV, we believe that trucks may power the economy, but it is the drivers who truly drive the nation forward. Their health and well-being are directly linked to road safety and community welfare. Through this initiative, we are not only improving access to healthcare but also reinforcing a culture of preventive care — because when drivers are healthy, our roads become safer for everyone.”
Santanu Mishra, Co-founder of Smile Foundation said, “Truckers are the backbone of India’s logistics network, yet their health needs have long remained underserved. Through this initiative, we aim to bring accessible, quality healthcare closer to them, while also encouraging preventive health practices and long-term well-being.”
The clinic will operate six days a week and will be supported by a team of qualified healthcare professionals, including doctors, physiotherapists, optometrists, and community mobilisers. This will also leverage a digital patient management system to ensure efficient service delivery, robust monitoring, and continuity of care.
By combining clinical services with outreach, awareness, and stakeholder engagement, the programme aims to contribute to a healthier, more resilient workforce while strengthening community health outcomes.
