EKA Mobility has begun the deployment of electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system in Odisha, marking a significant step in the state’s transition toward sustainable public transportation. The rollout introduces EKA Mobility’s 9-metre EKA 9M electric buses into the state’s public transport fleet and is being executed in partnership with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd.
The electric buses were virtually flagged off by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, underscoring the state government’s continued focus on strengthening electric mobility and zero-emission public transport infrastructure.
The project involves a total of 100 EKA electric buses that will operate across the capital region, expanding CRUT’s transit capacity while supporting the shift to cleaner, more efficient urban mobility solutions.
The EKA 9M is a 9-metre electric bus with a seating capacity of 35 passengers. It is equipped with wheelchair accessibility features and is powered by a 213 kW electric motor coupled with a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack.
Commenting on the deployment, Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, said the initiative represents a meaningful advancement in India’s sustainable urban mobility journey, aimed at reducing carbon emissions while enhancing the passenger experience through advanced electric vehicle technology.
Vivek Kalkar, Director at Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., noted that the project is a key step toward building clean mobility infrastructure in Odisha, adding that his company is responsible for managing the operational aspects of the electric bus deployment for CRUT.
EKA Mobility operates under Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and has equity partnerships with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan and VDL Groep of the Netherlands. The company specialises in commercial electric mobility solutions and manufactures electric buses for both urban and rural transportation across India.
The Odisha deployment forms part of EKA Mobility’s broader expansion of electric bus operations across multiple Indian states, supporting India’s nationwide transition to electric public transport systems.
