Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India to establish Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence in India

The Centre will serve as a hub for the widespread dissemination of Japanese manufacturing practices aimed at achieving high levels of competitiveness. It is proposed to be established across two key locations—Gujarat and Haryana.

As a tribute to the legendary automotive leader Late Mr. Osamu Suzuki, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India Limited have announced plans to establish the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in India. The announcement was made during a remembrance event held at Yashobhoomi, Delhi, honoring Mr. Suzuki, the Former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, who passed away on December 25, 2024, in Japan.

Mr. Osamu Suzuki was a visionary leader whose contributions played a pivotal role in democratizing car ownership in India and positioning the country as a key player in the global automobile manufacturing landscape. His pioneering approach to manufacturing laid the foundation for the success of Maruti Suzuki and helped foster a globally competitive auto component industry in India.

Born on January 30, 1930, Mr. Suzuki graduated from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University in 1953 and joined Suzuki Motor Corporation in April 1958. Over the decades, he held various leadership roles, significantly influencing the company’s international expansion and long-term success.

Mr. Suzuki introduced to India several Japanese manufacturing philosophies that enhanced industrial competitiveness while promoting inclusivity, equity, and social cohesion. These principles continue to hold great significance for the future of competitive manufacturing in India.

In recognition of his invaluable contributions to nation-building and in order to further disseminate his philosophy of manufacturing excellence, Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India are establishing the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence. This initiative aims to preserve and promote Mr. Suzuki’s legacy while inspiring future generations of innovators and industrial leaders.

The Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) is proposed to be established in Gujarat and Haryana, with a mission to advance India’s manufacturing capabilities in line with national objectives. OSCOE will focus on elevating the standards of component manufacturers—including Tier 1, 2, and 3 suppliers—to enhance the global competitiveness of India’s supply chains.

In collaboration with academic institutions and industry partners, the Centre will also develop infrastructure and programs aimed at promoting Japanese manufacturing philosophies. These initiatives will include formal education, lectures, discussions, seminars, and other interactive formats. Significantly, OSCOE’s efforts will extend beyond the automotive sector to contribute to broader advancements in the Indian manufacturing landscape.
