SKF India (Industrial) Ltd. has announced a planned investment of ₹800–950 crore by 2030 to expand its manufacturing footprint and localization strategy in India. The move reinforces SKF’s long-term commitment to supporting Make in India, enhancing supply chain agility, and reducing import dependency for critical industrial sectors.
As part of its localization roadmap, the Swedish bearing manufacturer has commissioned new production facilities across multiple sites:
- Ahmedabad — for medium deep-groove ball bearings (DGBBs) above 150 mm outer diameter
- Nilai, Malaysia — for medium spherical roller bearings (SRBs) ranging from 180–320 mm OD
- Pune — for UC-range ball bearing units
All three facilities are now fully operational, serving customers across India and Southeast Asia with products built to SKF’s global technology and quality standards.
“With new bearing manufacturing channels now operational in Ahmedabad, Pune, and Nilai, we’ve moved from intent to impact,” said Mukund Vasudevan, President for India & Southeast Asia and Managing Director of SKF India (Industrial). “These capabilities allow us to align production with customer needs, bring advanced technologies closer to industrial hubs, and unlock efficiencies that drive long-term value.”
New Facility and Investment Focus
The investment includes plans for a state-of-the-art facility in Pune, scheduled for completion by 2028. This expansion will focus on capacity enhancement, technology integration, and sustainability initiatives.
SKF’s latest production advancements aim to serve key industries such as railways, renewables, infrastructure, metals, cement, food and beverage, mining, and automation — helping customers achieve higher efficiency and reliability in operations.
Technology, Sustainability, and Innovation
SKF is embedding advanced technologies into its new manufacturing systems, including:
- AI-enabled inspection and quality monitoring systems
- Intelligent lubrication and condition monitoring platforms
- Predictive maintenance and data analytics tools
The company is also advancing its circular economy goals through remanufacturing programs designed to extend bearing life and reduce waste.
Global Commitment to India
During a recent visit to India, Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SKF Group, toured key facilities and engaged with local teams, reaffirming India’s strategic importance in SKF’s global growth roadmap.
Through these initiatives, SKF aims to create a more efficient, sustainable, and self-reliant manufacturing ecosystem, improving product availability, reducing lead times, and supporting industrial innovation across the region.
