SWITCH Mobility flags off first electric intercity coaches for Mumbai–Pune route

The EiV12mt electric intercity coach is designed for long-distance operations and offers 45 pushback seats, ensuring comfort for passengers. The coach delivers a driving range of over 300 km per charge and supports fast charging for improved operational efficiency.

SWITCH Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has deployed the first batch of 10 EiV12mt electric intercity coach units for Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions on the Mumbai–Pune Route. The flag-off ceremony took place in Pune on April 10, 2026, in the presence of Madhuri Misal.

This deployment marks SWITCH Mobility’s first intercity electric coach order fulfilled for a private-sector operator and also signals Prasanna Purple’s entry into the electric intercity mobility segment. The total order comprises 25 buses, with the remaining units scheduled for delivery later this year. The deployment is being executed in strategic partnership with Vertelo.

Designed for long-distance operations, the EiV12mt electric coach offers 45 pushback seats, a driving range of over 300 km per charge, and fast-charging capability. The buses are also equipped with SWITCH iON connected technology, enabling real-time fleet monitoring and operational efficiency.

According to Ganesh Mani, the deployment represents an important step in expanding electric mobility beyond urban routes into high-frequency intercity corridors such as Mumbai–Pune, where performance, reliability, and efficiency are crucial. He added that the company aims to progressively scale the partnership while delivering sustainable and commercially viable electric mobility solutions with enhanced passenger comfort.

Prasanna Patwardhan noted that entering the electric intercity segment marks a significant milestone for the company, as it seeks to introduce cleaner and more efficient travel options while improving overall passenger experience and advancing sustainable operations.

SWITCH Mobility currently has more than 2,500 electric buses deployed in India and has logged over 185 million kilometres globally. The company has also previously supplied intercity electric buses to state transport undertakings, including UPSRTC.
