VRL acquires 5 lakh sq ft transhipment hub in Bengaluru for ₹229 Crore

The company has leased the premises for over 10 years, utilizing the property for its transshipment operations in Bengaluru.

VRL Logistics has purchased a 5 lakh sq ft transhipment hub spanning 27 acres in Nelamangala, Bengaluru, for ₹229 crore. The company had been leasing the facility for over 10 years and funded the acquisition through internal accruals and a ₹185 crore term loan from HDFC Bank.

According to a BSE filing on December 7, 2024, the hub includes a godown, canteen building, sewage treatment plant (STP), fuel pump, weighbridge, workshop, and ample vehicle parking space. The facility is crucial for VRL’s South India operations, handling approximately 3,000 tonnes of cargo daily.

The purchase was prompted by the property owner’s decision to sell due to age-related concerns. VRL highlighted significant savings from the acquisition, noting that the monthly lease rent of ₹1.31 crore (including GST) would translate to annual savings of ₹15.72 crore.

Strategically located along the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-4 / AH 47), the hub offers seamless connectivity to the southern states and serves as a key link between Southern, Western, and Northern India. The site is also near prominent upcoming developments, including the proposed Queen City township, the planned new Bengaluru airport, and industrial areas such as Somapura and Vasantnarasapura.
