BMW India has opened pre-orders for the first-ever BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition, a limited-production model that pays tribute to the iconic 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo. Reimagined for the modern BMW M era, the special edition combines heritage-inspired styling with high-performance engineering.
The BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition will be offered in limited numbers across BMW India’s authorised dealerships. Pre-orders are now open, with bookings being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Finished exclusively in Alpine White, the special edition features hand-painted BMW Motorsport stripes inspired by the original BMW 2002 Turbo. Other distinctive exterior elements include a black power dome, the reversed ‘turbo’ lettering on the bonnet and a bespoke ‘turbo’ emblem positioned beneath the M2 badge. M stripes extending across the bonnet further reinforce its motorsport-inspired identity.
The model also features a carbon-fibre roof and tailgate, along with a carbon-fibre rear spoiler. Buyers can additionally opt for 19-inch front and 20-inch rear Gold Bronze M Performance forged wheels, completing the car’s distinctive appearance.
Inside, the BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition features M Carbon bucket seats, an M Alcantara steering wheel and carbon-fibre interior trim. An exclusive ‘turbo’ badge integrated into the centre cupholder cover adds another bespoke detail to the cabin.
Under the bonnet, the special edition is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine producing 353 kW (480 hp). BMW claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds, while the electronically limited top speed stands at 250 km/h. With the optional M Driver’s Package, the top speed increases to 285 km/h.
The Legacy of the BMW 2002 Turbo
Introduced in 1973 amid a global oil crisis, the BMW 2002 Turbo challenged conventional ideas about performance cars. Producing 170 hp and capable of exceeding 200 km/h, it was among the pioneers of turbocharging in series-production passenger cars.
The original model combined compact proportions with an emphasis on performance, establishing a significant milestone in BMW’s engineering history. Its adoption of turbocharging helped demonstrate the technology’s potential in passenger vehicles, influencing the development of performance cars in the decades that followed.
The new BMW M2 xDrive Turbo Edition draws on this legacy through its distinctive styling details and performance-focused character, bringing the spirit of the original Turbo into the contemporary BMW M lineup.
