Godrej Enterprises Group’s Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business has commenced operations at a new advanced manufacturing facility in Khalapur, Maharashtra, as the company looks to strengthen indigenous production and support the growing logistics, warehousing and supply chain sectors in India.

Located within the 360-acre Naoroji Godrej Industrial Park, the facility has been developed to cater to the requirements of industries including manufacturing, e-commerce, quick commerce, pharmaceuticals, engineering, automotive and warehousing. The plant has an annual production capacity of 6,000 units, which can be expanded to 15,000 units in line with market demand.

Strategically positioned near major logistics infrastructure, including Nhava Sheva Port and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, the facility is expected to support both domestic requirements and international markets. It will manufacture a broad range of material handling equipment, including articulated trucks, a segment in which Godrej is currently the only Indian manufacturer. The company’s material handling products are exported to more than 40 countries.

Industry 4.0 Technologies Integrated into New Facility

The Khalapur plant has been designed as a future-ready manufacturing hub, incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies across key production processes. These include robotic welding, automated painting systems, digital assembly guidance, smart quality assurance and end-of-line testing.

The facility also features resource-efficient manufacturing processes and energy-efficient technologies aimed at improving production efficiency while reducing resource consumption.

Commenting on the commencement of operations, Anil Lingayat, Business Head, Material Handling Equipment Business, Godrej Enterprises Group, said, “The commencement of operations at our Khalapur facility marks an important milestone in strengthening India’s material handling manufacturing ecosystem. The facility combines advanced automation, digital manufacturing and indigenous engineering to deliver world-class solutions for a rapidly evolving logistics landscape.”

He added that efficient movement of goods will play an increasingly important role as India expands its manufacturing and logistics capabilities. According to Lingayat, the facility is intended not only to expand production capacity but also to strengthen supply chains, support self-reliance and contribute to initiatives such as Make in India, PM Gati Shakti and Viksit Bharat.

Supporting India’s Manufacturing and Logistics Growth

The new facility strengthens Godrej Enterprises Group’s focus on locally engineered material handling solutions at a time when India’s logistics and warehousing sectors are expanding rapidly. Its proximity to major ports and emerging transport infrastructure also positions the plant to serve growing domestic and export demand.

Godrej Enterprises Group was recently awarded the EcoVadis Gold Medal and ranks among the top 5% of companies globally assessed for sustainability performance. The Khalapur facility further builds on the group’s focus on engineering, automation, sustainability and innovation-led manufacturing.

With scalable production capacity, advanced manufacturing technologies and a strategic location, the new plant is expected to play a role in strengthening India’s material handling ecosystem and supporting the country’s emergence as a globally competitive manufacturing and logistics hub.
