Henkel India flags off country’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations

The pilot covers two key routes—Chennai to Pune and Pune to Halol—using re-powered electric trucks with an 8-ton payload and 250 km range per charge. A round trip on the Chennai–Pune route is expected to cut GHG emissions by around 1,212 kg. Henkel aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, with a strong focus on reducing scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies, in partnership with a logistics provider and an EV retrofitting specialist, has launched India’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck operations for commercial logistics. This initiative marks a significant step towards greener freight movement along key industrial corridors.

The pilot phase covers two critical routes: Chennai to Pune (1,321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km). The re-powered trucks feature a fully electric powertrain, delivering a payload capacity of up to 8 tons and a range of 250 km per charge. A single round trip on the Chennai–Pune route is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1,212 kg.

Henkel reiterated that climate action remains a core part of its sustainability agenda. The company is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2045, targeting substantial reductions across scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

“This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions,” the company said.

Henkel plans to reduce value chain emissions by improving eco design, using low-emission materials, engaging suppliers, and deploying carbon-efficient logistics practices.
