
Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship company of the Hinduja Group and a global leader in commercial and defence mobility solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia’s premier state-owned defence and industrial equipment manufacturer.
The agreement, signed at PT Pindad’s headquarters in Bandung, marks a significant step forward in strengthening India–Indonesia bilateral cooperation across sustainable mobility and advanced defence technologies.
Under the MoU, the two companies will collaborate on the joint development and manufacturing of electric buses and defence vehicles, specifically tailored to meet Indonesia’s evolving public transport and national security requirements.
The partnership brings together Ashok Leyland’s global expertise in commercial electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility solutions with PT Pindad’s deep engineering capabilities, strong local manufacturing base, and long-standing role within Indonesia’s defence ecosystem. Together, the companies aim to deliver locally relevant, technologically advanced, and sustainable mobility solutions aligned with Indonesia’s long-term development and security goals.
The agreement was formalised in the presence of Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, Chief Executive Officer, PT Pindad, Mr. Amandeep Singh, President – International Operations, Defence, LCV & PSB, Ashok Leyland and Lord Tariq, Advisor to the Board, Hinduja Auto.
Indonesia has been accelerating its transition toward sustainable transportation and modernised defence capabilities. This MoU is aligned with the nation’s push for energy-efficient mobility, electric vehicle adoption, and locally produced defence platforms.
Key focus areas under the MoU is to carry out cooperation in the field of Joint Development of Electric Buses and Defence Vehicles.
