TATA AutoComp and Škoda Group form Joint Venture to manufacture railway components in India

The joint venture will produce key components for metros, light rail, and regional trains to support India’s growing railway and mobility sectors. Based in India, it involves a multi-million-euro investment aimed at boosting technology and regional economic growth.

TATA AutoComp, a leading Indian auto component manufacturer, has partnered with Škoda Group, a prominent European public transport solutions provider, to establish a joint venture focused on the production of railway propulsion systems and components in India.

Aimed at supporting the expanding Indian railway and urban mobility sectors, the venture will manufacture converters, drives, and auxiliary converters for metros, light rail vehicles, and medium high-speed regional trains.

With operations based in India, the partnership includes a multi-million-euro investment and is expected to deliver both technological advancements and economic growth to the region.

TATA AutoComp has a significant market position in providing systems and components for Electric Vehicles. This partnership will diversify TATA AutoComp’s portfolio and strengthen its capability in Railway & Metro segment. TATA AutoComp aims to bring sustainable innovations in mobility solutions at an affordable cost, specifically catering to rolling stock in India. 

The JV signing ceremony was held at the Hotel Taj Mahal, New Delhi, and was attended by senior leadership from both organizations, along with Ing. Eva Kopecká, Head of the Commercial and Economic Section at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi.

The development and production of electrical equipment and components for rolling stock is one of the strong foundations of Škoda Group. It designs and manufactures the components to meet key requirements such as high reliability, safety, efficiency, low energy consumption, robustness, low lifecycle costs and maximum environmental friendliness. Such components will be manufactured in India by TATA AutoComp with technical expertise & support from Škoda Group. Leveraging TATA AutoComp’s expertise within the Indian Railway Market and its notable contributions to the ‘Vande Bharat’ train project, this partnership is set to amplify its influence while materializing a mutually enriching and sustainable collaboration.
