
Mahindra & Mahindra has officially inaugurated its Passive Safety Lab and Battery & Cell Research Lab, providing engineers with cutting-edge facilities to test SUV safety across various load cases and conduct advanced research in cell technologies. The opening ceremony was led by Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Tamil Nadu’s Honorable Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce, joined by Mr. Velusamy R, President of Automotive Technology & Product Development at M&M Ltd and Joint Managing Director of Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited, along with senior officials from the Tamil Nadu Government.
The Passive Safety Lab (PSL) is among the largest automotive safety testing facilities owned by an OEM globally, designed to support testing under Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) standards as well as Australian and European New Car Assessment Programs (A/ENCAP).
The laboratories, which have come up at an investment of over Rs 300 crore, are 55 km away from the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) where all company SUVs are developed from scratch, it added.
Battery & Cell Research Lab will focus on research & analysis of Battery Cells, Modules & Packs aiming to achieve enhanced energy efficiency, Performance, lower charging time and longevity. This Lab will mark a significant milestone for M&M in its journey towards clean mobility solutions. Further, destructive & Non-destructive cell related tests can be conducted inhouse.
