A key milestone in India’s road safety journey was marked with the launch of ‘A Dream of Billions: Road Safety 2.0,’ authored by Mr. Akhilesh Srivastava, President of ITS India (Road Safety), President of the India Chapter of the International Road Federation (IRF), and a Member of the NHEV Knowledge Group.
During the launch, Mr. Srivastava personally signed copies of the book, underscoring his commitment to knowledge dissemination and citizen engagement within India’s rapidly evolving electric and smart mobility ecosystem.
The book reimagines road safety not merely as a regulatory requirement but as a shared national responsibility. It advocates a people- and technology-centric approach, integrating artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and community participation. The publication also highlights the critical role of intelligent highways, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and data-driven enforcement in reducing road accidents and improving traffic compliance.
A Dream of Billions: Road Safety 2.0 was presented to Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, who lauded the road safety initiatives of the India Chapter of IRF and emphasized the growing importance of technology-enabled solutions in strengthening India’s road infrastructure and safety outcomes.
Calling for a holistic safety ecosystem, the book stresses citizen ownership, responsible behaviour, and safer infrastructure design, positioning Road Safety 2.0 as a movement to protect lives and transform India’s road safety narrative.
The book argues that the future of road safety lies in empowerment rather than enforcement, combining technology, data intelligence, and citizen participation to create safer roads by design.
A key highlight of the book is its advocacy for next-generation digital solutions, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Mobility systems, and data-driven governance. Indian highways are rapidly evolving from static transport corridors into intelligent ecosystems capable of predicting risks, managing traffic flow, and saving lives.
Technologies such as Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS) enable real-time monitoring, incident detection, speed management, and automated enforcement through e-challans — reducing reliance on manual intervention while enhancing compliance. The book positions these systems as foundational pillars of the Road Safety 2.0 vision.
Road Safety 2.0 is more than a publication — it is a movement urging India to reimagine how it travels, connects, and protects its people. With citizen participation at its core, the book calls upon every Indian to treat road safety as a shared dream — and a shared responsibility — worth pursuing for generations to come.
