Ather Energy names Anjani Kumar as Chief Digital & Information Officer

Anjani Kumar will lead Ather Energy’s digital strategy and tech infrastructure across product development, manufacturing, and customer experience. His appointment supports the company’s expansion into new products and business models, with a focus on software integration and leadership across core digital functions.

Ather Energy Limited has announced the appointment of Anjani Kumar as its new Chief Digital & Information Officer (CDIO), effective May 30. In his new role, Kumar will be responsible for shaping and executing the company’s digital strategy, overseeing technology infrastructure across product development, manufacturing, and customer experience.

The appointment comes at a pivotal time as Ather Energy broadens its product lineup and explores new business models with a strong focus on software integration. Kumar will lead key digital functions including WebTech, IT & Security, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Business Intelligence, and Digital Engineering.

Bringing over 24 years of expertise in digital transformation and IT innovation, Kumar has worked across diverse sectors such as automotive, technology, logistics, pharmaceuticals, and financial services. His previous leadership roles span reputed organizations like IBM, Nissan, Cognizant, Strides Pharma, and Tata AIG.

“As we grow rapidly as an organisation, with multiple products, new business models, and deeper software integration, the complexity naturally increases,” said Swapnil Jain, Executive Director and CTO at Ather Energy. “Building robust systems with a backbone to leverage AI on top of enterprise data is going to be critical for our growth.”

Kumar holds a Post Graduate degree in Marketing & Management from Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Rourkela. He has received leadership awards including ‘Digital Leader of the Year’ and ‘India’s Top CIO.’

Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy offers two product lines: the Ather 450 performance scooters and the Ather Rizta family scooters. It pioneered India’s first two-wheeler fast charging network, Ather Grid, with 3,611 chargers installed globally as of March 2025.
