Apollo Tyres Ltd’s manufacturing facilities at Chennai and Limda (Gujarat) have been awarded the British Safety Council’s prestigious Sword of Honour, one of the highest global recognitions for excellence in health and safety management. In addition, the Chennai plant received a special award for Innovation and Development.
The awards were presented to Yoichi Sato, Chief Quality and Safety Officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd, along with C Thomas Mathew, Unit Head – Chennai Plant, and Piush Bansal, Unit Head – Limda Plant.
The recognition follows both facilities achieving 5-star ratings in the British Safety Council’s Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit earlier this year. The Sword of Honour is conferred on organisations that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to maintaining the highest standards of workplace health, safety, and employee wellbeing.
The award underscores Apollo Tyres proactive approach to safety, robust management systems and a strong safety-first culture embedded across operations. It reflects the organisation’s continuous efforts to go beyond compliance and create safe, healthy and sustainable working environments for employees, contractors and stakeholders.
Yoichi Sato, Chief Quality and Safety Officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “Receiving the Sword of Honour for both our plants is a matter of great pride for everyone at Apollo Tyres. This recognition reinforces our belief that operational excellence begins with putting people first. We remain committed to continually strengthening our health and safety practices across all our operations, guided by our ‘Safety First’ philosophy.”
Peter McGettrick, Chairman of British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the board of trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate Apollo Tyres on achieving the highest standards of its health, safety and wellbeing management. Achieving recognition of this sort takes absolute dedication and the utmost professionalism. We are proud to support you in your achievements and delighted we can contribute to your ongoing success.”
Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, added: “I would like to congratulate Apollo Tyres and its staff on this award, in tribute to their commitment to keeping their workplace safe and healthy and contributing to safeguarding the environment. All of the Sword, Globe and Shield award-winning organisations share a commitment and willingness to achieve the uppermost standards of health and safety. We thank Apollo Tyres for contributing to achieving our vision that no one should be injured or made ill through their work.”
The British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour is awarded to organisations worldwide that achieve the highest audit scores and demonstrate excellence in health and safety management throughout the year. This milestone further strengthens Apollo Tyres’ position as a responsible and safety-led organisation, aligned with global best practices and committed to continuous improvement.
