Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (BKT)’s manufacturing facility in Waluj, Maharashtra, has been honoured with the CII National Water Award 2025, recognizing excellence in water stewardship and sustainable resource management across Indian industries. The award was presented by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in New Delhi on November 19, 2025.
Significant Water Savings Through Continuous Improvement
Over a two-year period, the Waluj plant reduced water consumption by 25% through incremental process enhancements and disciplined operational practices. Leveraging Kaizen initiatives, continuous monitoring, and daily follow-ups, the facility achieved its sustainability goals while maintaining high operational efficiency.
Mr. Swapnil Vyas, Assistant Vice President (Operations) at BKT Waluj, said: “This recognition reinforces our belief that consistent efforts and a culture of discipline can lead to significant environmental impact.”
Operational Excellence Beyond Water Conservation
In addition to water savings, the Waluj plant has reported other operational improvements, including:
- Reduced scrap rates
- Optimized energy consumption
- Enhanced first-time quality metrics
- Improved safety standards
Leadership in Sustainable Manufacturing
The CII National Water Award highlights organizations demonstrating leadership in sustainable water management, elevating recipients beyond basic regulatory compliance. For BKT, the award underscores a broader commitment to environmental sustainability in the off-highway tyre manufacturing sector.
BKT manufactures specialty tyres for agricultural, industrial, earthmoving, and mining applications, selling over 3,600 products across 163 countries. The company has also recently expanded into rubber track production, further strengthening its global footprint.
The Waluj plant’s water conservation achievements demonstrate how environmental sustainability and operational efficiency can go hand-in-hand, setting benchmarks for the tyre industry in resource management and eco-friendly manufacturing practices.
