Hyperion-Powered Tata Sierra sets New National Fuel Efficiency Record

The Tata Sierra sets new benchmarks with a certified 29.9 kmpl fuel efficiency run and a 222 km/h top speed at NATRAX, showcasing the power of its 1.5L Hyperion engine. Tests were conducted under controlled conditions, with customer vehicles capped at 190 km/h for safety.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ latest SUV, the Tata Sierra, has set a new benchmark in fuel efficiency by securing a place in the India Book of Records. During a certified 12-hour endurance run at NATRAX Indore, the Hyperion-powered 1.5L Sierra delivered an impressive 29.9 kmpl, surpassing the previous national record.

The achievement was accomplished by the Pixel Motion team, who drove the Sierra continuously from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on November 30, 2025, pausing only briefly for driver changes. The record was officially validated on the same day, marking a significant milestone for Tata Motors and its advanced Hyperion powertrain technology.

At the heart of this accomplishment is the all-new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, engineered to deliver high efficiency without compromising refinement, performance or drivability. Its advanced combustion system, torque-rich performance band and friction-optimised architecture ensured consistent fuel delivery and stable performance throughout the run. This achievement stands as a testament to the engineering innovation and capability of the Hyperion powertrain.

Speaking on this achievement, Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “Setting a national efficiency record so early in the Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for us. The Hyperion engine platform was built to push the boundaries of what petrol powertrains can achieve, and this milestone validates that effort. It strengthens the Sierra’s value proposition for customers and underlines TMPV’s commitment to bringing advanced, efficient and future-ready technologies to the market.

The Tata Sierra also registered an impressive top speed of 222 km/h at NATRAX, Indore, under specified test conditions, highlighting the strong performance of its 1.5L Hyperion engine during a parallel run.

Note:

  • The fuel efficiency and top-speed tests were conducted in a controlled environment by trained expert drivers under strict supervision.
  • TMPV advises customers not to attempt replicating such driving behaviour. Owners should follow traffic rules, respect speed limits, and prioritise safety at all times.
  • Customer-delivered vehicles will be electronically limited to a maximum speed of 190 km/h, in line with TMPV’s stringent safety standards.
