Mahindra’s latest electric SUV lineup has shattered first-day booking records, highlighting a significant shift in India’s automotive market toward premium electric vehicles.
The automaker announced 30,179 bookings for its Electric Origin SUVs—the XEV 9e and BE 6—on the first day of availability, translating to Rs 8,472 crores in potential sales at ex-showroom prices. This milestone is particularly noteworthy, considering India’s total electric passenger vehicle sales stood at approximately 100,000 units in 2024.
Among the two models, the XEV 9e proved more popular, accounting for 56% of the bookings, while the BE 6 secured 44%. Consumer preference leaned heavily toward the high-capacity variant, with 73% of buyers across both models opting for the top-tier Pack Three, featuring a 79 kWh battery.
Unveiled on November 26, 2024, these SUVs embody Mahindra’s UNLIMIT India vision, which focuses on domestic manufacturing for both local and global markets. The overwhelming response signals a growing consumer trust in Indian-made premium electric vehicles.
Mahindra has announced a structured delivery schedule, starting in mid-March 2025 with the Pack Three variant. Deliveries will continue throughout the year, with Pack Three Select arriving in June, Pack Two in July, and both Pack One Above and Pack One variants in August.
This highly successful launch comes at a pivotal moment for India’s electric vehicle market, which has been experiencing steady growth. Industry analysts will be closely monitoring whether this initial surge in bookings translates into sustained demand for premium electric SUVs.
The BE.06 and XUV.e9 play a key role in Mahindra’s EV strategy, marking the brand’s entry into the premium electric SUV segment. Built on the advanced INGLO platform, these models emphasize cutting-edge technology and high-performance capabilities.
Designed for tech-savvy drivers seeking a dynamic experience, the BE.06 stands out with its sporty aesthetics. Meanwhile, the XUV.e9, a spacious SUV-coupe, caters to those who prioritize luxury and style. Both models offer impressive range, fast-charging capabilities, and state-of-the-art features such as ADAS Level 2+ and a fully digital cockpit.
By offering these models in multiple trims and price points, Mahindra aims to make premium EVs more accessible to a broader audience. The “Three for Me” finance plan further enhances affordability, appealing to a wider customer base.
Both the BE.06 and XUV.e9 come with two battery pack options—59 kWh and 79 kWh—featuring Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. This delivers an impressive range of 535 km to 682 km for the BE.06 and 542 km to 656 km for the XUV.e9 (MIDC Part 1+2).
In terms of performance, both SUVs are powered by a 210 kW electric motor, with the BE.06 accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and the XUV.e9 in 6.8 seconds. They support 175 kW DC fast charging, enabling a 20-80% charge in under 20 minutes.
Inside, these models offer a cutting-edge digital cockpit with dual screens, an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD), and an immersive 16-speaker 3D surround sound system. Safety remains a priority with Level 2+ ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.
