The Maruti Suzuki Jimny has crossed the 150,000-unit cumulative sales milestone since its launch in India in June 2023. Thirty-two months after its debut, the premium lifestyle off-roader has recorded total global sales of 158,678 units by the end of January 2026.
A significant portion of these sales has come from international markets. Exports account for 127,442 units—around 80% of total sales—while domestic sales in India stand at 31,236 units, representing the remaining 20%. The strong export performance has played a key role in supporting record overseas shipments for Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
Despite its popularity overseas, the five-door Jimny has seen relatively modest demand in India. In the first ten months of FY2026 (April 2025–January 2026), the model recorded domestic wholesales of 5,487 units, reflecting a 32% year-on-year decline compared with 8,094 units during the same period the previous year. Among the 17 passenger vehicles in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio, the Jimny is currently the second lowest-selling model after the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, accounting for just 0.36% of the company’s total passenger vehicle sales of 1,495,910 units during the period.
In contrast, export demand for the Jimny continues to surge. Overseas shipments reached 57,269 units in the first ten months of FY2026, marking a 41% year-on-year increase compared with 40,674 units during April 2024–January 2025.
This performance has positioned the Jimny as the second highest-selling export model for Maruti Suzuki after the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which recorded 75,183 export units during the same period. The Jimny currently contributes around 16% of the company’s passenger vehicle exports, which totaled 358,953 units—up 32% year-on-year—in FY2026 year-to-date.
With export data for February and March 2026 yet to be released, the Jimny is projected to reach approximately 73,000 export units for the full FY2026 period, representing a 52% increase compared with 47,982 units exported in FY2025.
A key factor behind the Jimny’s strong export performance is demand from Japan, where the five-door SUV is sold as the Suzuki Nomade.
Exports of the five-door Jimny began in October 2023, just five months after its launch in India, targeting key markets across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. Countries such as Mexico, Australia, and South Africa quickly emerged as strong markets for the model.
Even before the five-door version was introduced, Maruti Suzuki had been manufacturing the three-door Jimny in India since November 2020 exclusively for export to both left- and right-hand-drive markets in Africa and the Middle East from its Gurgaon facility.
Demand accelerated further when Suzuki Motor Corporation unveiled the five-door Jimny in Japan on January 30, 2025 ahead of its official launch on April 3 under the Nomade nameplate. The launch marked an important milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s export journey, as the Jimny became the second SUV after the Fronx to be supplied to Suzuki’s home market.
Customer response in Japan exceeded expectations. Within just four days of opening bookings, the company received more than 50,000 pre-orders for the five-door Jimny, prompting Suzuki to temporarily halt bookings due to overwhelming demand.
Since then, strong demand for both the Fronx and the Jimny has transformed Japan into Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market and the biggest overseas market for the Jimny. Other key destinations include Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile, highlighting the growing global appeal of the made-in-India off-road SUV.
