Mercedes-Benz India to localise Maybach GLS, Achieves record revenue in 2025

Mercedes-Benz India to locally produce the Maybach GLS in Pune as it reports record revenue in 2025, driven by strong AMG, Maybach and EV sales.

Mercedes-Benz India has announced plans to locally manufacture the Mercedes-Maybach GLS at its Pune facility, while reporting its highest-ever revenue performance in 2025 despite a marginal decline in overall volumes.

The luxury carmaker sold 19,007 vehicles in 2025, down 3 percent from 19,565 units in 2024. However, the company said its strong focus on high-end models and value-led growth helped it achieve record revenue for the year.

With the localisation of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, India becomes the first market outside the United States to produce the ultra-luxury SUV. Since its launch in June 2021, the Maybach GLS has been sold in India as a completely built unit (CBU). Local assembly is expected to reduce delivery timelines and improve accessibility for customers. Mercedes-Benz also confirmed that India has entered the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach for the first time.

The company’s top-end vehicle (TEV) segment—comprising the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach and AMG models—grew 11 percent year-on-year and accounted for 25 percent of total sales. The AMG performance portfolio recorded a robust 34 percent growth, driven primarily by demand for models such as the AMG G63, AMG CLE53 and AMG GLC43.

Battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales rose 12 percent in 2025, with electric models accounting for 20 percent of all top-end vehicle sales. Mercedes-Benz noted that 70 percent of its EV volumes were priced between ₹1.25 crore and ₹3.10 crore, while the EQS SUV continued to be the highest-selling luxury electric vehicle in the Indian market.

In contrast, the entry luxury segment declined 20 percent year-on-year and contributed just 13 percent to overall volumes. The company attributed this to its strategic decision to prioritise product value and brand positioning over aggressive price-led competition.

Mercedes-Benz also expanded its electric mobility ecosystem with the launch of MB.Charge Public, offering access to over 9,000 DC fast-charging points across India. The service, developed in partnership with Jio BP, Chargezone, Chargemod and Zeon, is available at no additional cost to existing EV customers and integrates charger discovery, availability and payment into a single digital platform.

During the year, the company introduced special editions including the Mercedes-Maybach GLS Celebration Edition priced at ₹4.10 crore, and the EQS SUV Celebration Edition starting at ₹1.34 crore for the five-seater and ₹1.48 crore for the seven-seater.

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz India plans to launch 12 new products in 2026, including the CLA BEV featuring the new MB.OS operating system. The company will add 15 new dealership touchpoints across three new markets and upgrade 15 existing locations, with franchise partners committing investments exceeding ₹450 crore.

Mercedes-Benz has also restructured its operations to integrate sales, service and finance under a single customer-centric unit. A new digital financing platform, branded “Three Clicks to Finance,” will be introduced to simplify the vehicle purchase and financing journey.

Commenting on the performance, Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer said the company’s disciplined focus on value rather than volume, along with sustained demand for high-end vehicles, underpinned the record revenue performance. The long-wheelbase E-Class continued to be India’s highest-selling luxury car, while both sedans and SUVs contributed meaningfully to overall sales.
