Toyota Vellfire scales new heights in FY2026 with 1,259 units sold in 11 months

Despite a price of Rs 1.20–1.30 crore, India’s premium car buyers continue to favour this ultra-luxurious hybrid MPV.

The Toyota Vellfire has recorded its best-ever sales performance in India in FY2026, highlighting the strong demand for ultra-luxury MPVs despite their steep pricing. Priced between Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 1.30 crore (ex-showroom), it remains the most expensive MPV offered by Toyota Kirloskar Motor in the country.

According to cumulative wholesale data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the Vellfire has sold 4,659 units in India since its launch in February 2020 through February 2026. Notably, 52 percent of these sales — 2,414 units — have come in just the past 23 months, indicating a sharp rise in demand.

The luxury MPV was introduced just before the global disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and in its early years sales remained in the three-digit range. However, momentum began to build after the launch of the new-generation Vellfire in August 2023, offered in six- and seven-seat configurations.

Demand surged in FY2025 when Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 1,155 units, representing a 189 percent year-on-year increase over FY2024’s 400 units. The momentum has continued in FY2026, with 1,259 units already sold in the first 11 months, marking 56 percent growth compared to the 809 units sold during April 2024–February 2025. With March sales still to be added, FY2026 could close with around 1,400 units, potentially making it the Vellfire’s strongest year yet.

Luxury, Space and Hybrid Power

The Vellfire combines hybrid efficiency with high-end comfort. It is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid engine producing 193hp and 240Nm, paired with an e-CVT transmission. The MPV delivers a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.28 km/l.

Inside, the new-generation model adopts a more minimalist design with fewer physical buttons, as most controls are integrated into a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Comfort-focused features include redesigned seats, multiple AC vents, a large overhead passenger console, pull-down sunshades and a head-up display.

The top-spec VIP variant with the Executive Lounge package offers two second-row captain’s chairs with Ottoman support, along with amenities such as a wireless charger and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

XXL Dimensions and Premium Comfort

Measuring 5005 mm in length, 1850 mm in width and 1950 mm in height, with a 3000 mm wheelbase, the Vellfire is one of the largest MPVs on Indian roads. Built on the same platform as the Lexus LM, the vehicle emphasizes passenger comfort, particularly for those seated in the rear.

The luxury MPV has earned a four-star rating in Japan NCAP crash tests. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, and camera- and radar-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

New Rivals Enter the Segment

The Vellfire’s growing popularity has attracted new competitors in the luxury MPV segment. These include the MG M9, priced at Rs 69.90 lakh (ex-showroom), and the recently introduced Mercedes‑Benz V‑Class, which carries a price tag of Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom). The ultra-luxury Lexus LM, priced at Rs 2.15 crore, also competes in the same space.

Whether the arrival of these rivals will affect Vellfire’s demand remains to be seen. For now, however, India’s affluent buyers continue to show strong interest in Toyota’s flagship luxury MPV.
