ZF secures major India City Bus order for AxTrax 2 LF Electric Axle

ZF wins major Indian OEM order for AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle, enhancing EV city bus efficiency with 20% energy savings and 360 kW output.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG has secured a significant multi-year order in India through its Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division for the next-generation AxTrax 2 LF electric portal axle. The order, placed by a leading Indian OEM, covers the supply of several thousand units for both the domestic market and export programmes.

Since its global debut at Busworld in 2023, the AxTrax 2 LF has positioned itself as a high-efficiency solution for battery-electric city buses. Compared to its predecessor, the system delivers up to 20 percent energy savings, enabling operators to reduce battery size requirements and extend vehicle range. The fully integrated low-floor axle combines propulsion, braking and suspension into a compact design, optimising interior space for passengers while improving battery packaging flexibility.

Andreas Moser, Head of ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions division and responsible for the India region, said the order reinforces the company’s role in advancing zero-emission mobility. He highlighted the continued global demand for ZF’s commercial vehicle technologies and emphasised the AxTrax 2 LF’s blend of performance, efficiency and modular adaptability.

Designed to lower total cost of ownership (TCO), the AxTrax 2 LF supports OEMs in simplifying vehicle architecture while meeting diverse operational requirements. Its modular platform enables higher performance with improved design flexibility.

Technically, the system features dual permanent magnet synchronous (PSM) hairpin motors, an 800-volt silicon carbide (SiC) inverter, and advanced oil cooling technology. It delivers up to 360 kW continuous power and a peak torque of 36,800 Nm, offering up to 25 percent gradeability for a 30-ton articulated bus with a single driven axle.
