GoodEnough Energy Commissions India’s Largest Battery Energy Storage System

GoodEnough Energy commissions India’s largest 7 GWh battery energy storage system in Uttar Pradesh, supporting India’s 500 GW non-fossil power target.

GoodEnough Energy on Tuesday announced the commissioning of a 7 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery energy storage system (BESS) in Uttar Pradesh, marking the largest such facility in India to date. Founded in 2023 with an initial investment of ₹4.5 billion, the company plans to scale up its manufacturing capacity to 25 GWh of BESS over the next three years.

The development comes at a time when Indian companies continue to rely heavily on imports from China for battery storage systems used in clean energy projects. With India targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, the country is estimated to require around 230 GWh of energy storage to support grid stability as renewable energy capacity expands.

To boost domestic manufacturing, the Indian government approved ₹94 billion in funding in 2023 to support BESS equipment production, offering financial assistance of up to 40 per cent of capital costs.
