Valeo inaugurates electric powertrain manufacturing line in Pune

Valeo has been selected by Mahindra to supply the electric powertrain for its upcoming Born Electric platform. The newly inaugurated facility in Pune will manufacture a highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle system combining the motor, inverter, and reducer into a compact and efficient solution.

Valeo has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art manufacturing line dedicated to electric powertrain systems at its Pune facility, marking a significant step in strengthening electric mobility manufacturing in India. The inauguration, held on March 28, was attended by Velusamy R, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division.

Supporting Mahindra’s Born Electric Platform

Valeo has been selected by Mahindra to supply the electric powertrain for its upcoming Born Electric platform. The newly inaugurated manufacturing line at Valeo’s Pune plant will produce a highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle system that combines the motor, inverter, and reducer into a compact and efficient unit designed for next-generation electric vehicles.

Developed and manufactured in India, the advanced e-Axle is designed to deliver high efficiency, optimized performance, and enhanced reliability. The system also incorporates the latest generation of Valeo’s electric motor technology, further improving performance and packaging efficiency for electric vehicles.

Strategic Investment in India

Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division, highlighted India’s strategic importance for the company’s global roadmap.

“India is a key region in Valeo’s ‘Elevate 2028’ strategic plan. Our investments in Pune support our commitment to deeper localization of advanced technologies in India. By localizing the production of our highly integrated 3-in-1 e-Axle systems, we are strengthening our ability to deliver advanced technologies to our customers and contributing to India’s transition toward safer and more sustainable mobility,” he said.

Jayakumar G, President of Valeo India, added that the new manufacturing line represents a major milestone for the company’s India operations.

“The inauguration of this line marks an important milestone in Valeo’s journey in India. Our new e-Axle manufacturing line in Pune is a key step in our growth strategy. It reflects our commitment to bringing advanced technology solutions closer to our customers. We are proud to develop and manufacture this e-Axle for Mahindra’s Born Electric Vehicles and to contribute to the growth of India’s EV ecosystem,” he said.

Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities

Located at Valeo’s Lonikand facility in Pune, the new line features advanced manufacturing capabilities designed for high precision, efficiency, and quality. The facility includes automated production lines for U-Pin (Hairpin) stator winding assembly, reducer assembly, inverter manufacturing, and final e-Axle assembly.

The manufacturing lines incorporate advanced automation, precision assembly processes, and stringent quality control systems. The facility is also supported by full digitalization and end-to-end traceability, ensuring consistent production quality and operational efficiency.

Valeo’s Growing Presence in India

Valeo has been operating in India since 1997 and continues to expand its footprint in the country. The company currently operates six production facilities across Chennai, Pune, Sanand, and Gurgaon, along with global R&D centers in Chennai and Bengaluru.

Valeo employs over 7,500 people in India, with more than 50 percent of its workforce comprising engineers involved in global research, development, and manufacturing activities.

With the new electric powertrain manufacturing line, Valeo further strengthens its role in India’s growing electric vehicle ecosystem while supporting OEM partners such as Mahindra in developing next-generation electric mobility solutions.
