Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurates SIAM’s EV Zone at IEC GM 2025

Curated by SIAM under the theme “Fostering a Sustainable World”, the EV Zone at IEC GM 2025 showcases India’s latest advancements in electric mobility. During his visit, Shri Piyush Goyal explored 31 production-ready EVs from 14 leading OEMs, highlighting the Indian automobile industry’s progress toward sustainable and green transportation.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, inaugurated the Electric Vehicle (EV) Zone at the exhibition held in conjunction with the 89th General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC GM). The event, organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), is taking place from 15th to 19th September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Curated by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the EV Zone—under the theme “Fostering a Sustainable World”—is a key highlight of the exhibition. It showcases cutting-edge advancements by the Indian automobile industry in electric mobility and sustainable automotive technologies. The EV Zone will remain open throughout the duration of the IEC GM 2025 event.

During his visit, Shri Piyush Goyal explored 31 production-ready electric vehicles displayed at the SIAM EV Zone. The pavilion included cutting-edge EV innovations from 14 leading OEMs—Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, Mercedes-Benz, Kia India, EKA Mobility, Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Suzuki Motorcycle India, Piaggio, and Ather Energy— reflecting India’s rapid strides toward sustainable mobility and the future of green transportation.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry stated that sustainability was being focused on as the pillar of growth in India, since nature was intrinsically respected by every Indian. He also emphasized that good standards were needed for a developing country like India. It was conveyed that products designed and made in India would soon be recognized globally as symbols of reliability, sustainability, and excellence. He further highlighted that these standards were regarded as playing a vital role in protecting consumers, boosting satisfaction, and enhancing competitiveness in the global market.

The IEC GM 2025, hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), brings together over 2,000 global experts from more than 100 countries to deliberate on international electrotechnical standards. The event features the IEC GM Exhibition, showcasing advancements in electric mobility, smart lighting, electronics, and IT manufacturing.

SIAM’s participation at IEC GM 2025 reinforces its commitment to sustainable mobility and India’s Net Zero targets by 2070. Visitors are encouraged to explore the EV Zone to witness the industry’s efforts in decarbonisation and take the Digital Sustainability Pledge, with BIS planting a sapling for every pledge to promote environmental sustainability.
