Kia Corporation has unveiled the PV5 WAV (Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle) at the Financial Times’ Future of the Car Summit in London, in partnership with UK-based Motability Operations Ltd.

This launch reflects Kia’s dedication to enhancing mobility for individuals with disabilities and reinforces its role as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions.

“The PV5 WAV is more than a vehicle—it’s a pathway to independence for people with mobility challenges,” said Sangdae Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia’s PBV Division. “By combining advanced Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) technology with inclusive design, and through our partnership with Motability Operations, we’re shaping a future where sustainable mobility is accessible to all.”

Kia’s Commitment to Accessible Electric Mobility
Kia is developing a competitive electric Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (eWAV) as part of its evolving PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle) lineup, addressing the rising global demand for accessible transport driven by aging populations and policy shifts. With traditional ICE-based WAVs being phased out, eWAVs are becoming increasingly vital.

Kia has a longstanding commitment to inclusive mobility, beginning with its “Green Trip” initiative in South Korea in 2012. In 2021, the company expanded globally with a mobility project in Los Angeles, offering car-hailing services for individuals with specialized mobility needs.

Kia PV5 WAV: Empowering Accessible Electric Mobility
The Kia PV5 WAV is thoughtfully designed to enhance mobility for wheelchair users, their families, and caregivers, offering safe, convenient, and comfortable electric travel. Key features include a side-entry system for curbside access, a 300kg-rated wheelchair ramp, a third-row tip-up seat for caregiver assistance, and a secure wheelchair belt system.

Manufactured sustainably at Kia’s Hwaseong EVO Plant in Korea, the vehicle also integrates accessibility-focused applications via the AAOS open software platform, making it a comprehensive solution for inclusive mobility.

Kia Expands Global Reach of PBV WAV Through Motability Partnership
At Kia EV Day in February 2025, Kia announced its collaboration with Motability Operations, the UK’s largest vehicle leasing company and a key player in the Motability Scheme, which offers accessible vehicles to individuals with qualifying disabilities. This partnership supports Kia’s vision of delivering customer-focused eWAVs and reinforces its role as a Sustainable Mobility Solutions Provider. Kia also plans to expand the PBV WAV offering to additional global markets.
