Swedish luxury carmaker Volvo Cars India on Tuesday, 26th July launched its electric SUV XC40 Recharge priced at INR 55,90,000 (ex-showroom, India). The carmaker will sell the new SUV through Direct-to-Customer (D2C) retail model. Customers can book their XC40 Recharge on the company website from July 27 onwards at an initial amount of INR 50,000.
The deliveries of the first set of cars will begin in October this year. “The direct online sales by the company demonstrates our commitment towards building direct relationship with our customers and offer them a hassle-free buying experience,” Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Cars India said. He also said that the company’s next electric model for India will be C40 Recharge to be launched in 2023.
According to Volvo Car India, its dealers who are present across India would continue to support customers towards sales delivery by providing on ground support. “There shall be no change in customer service and after-sales service operation businesses which continue to operate as it is,” said the company. Interestingly, Volvo has launched its XC40 Recharge digitally via metaverse. Earlier, MG Motor, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra have also ventured into the virtual platform.
The new electric SUV will be locally assembled at the company’s facility in Hoskote near Bengaluru. It comes with an ownership package offering 3-year warranty, 3 year service package, 3 year roadside assistance, 8 year battery warranty and a third-party wall box charger of 11 kW.
The model comes with dual electric motors paired with a 78kWh battery pack. The setup develops a maximum power of 408hp and peak torque of 660Nm. The vehicle gets all-wheel drive and comes with a claimed range of 418km on a single charge.
It also gets six airbags, panoramic sunroof, air purifier system, wireless phone charging, 360- degree camera, sensor-based ADAS tech with Level 2 Autonomous driving and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV will compete with the likes of BMW i4, Kia EV6 and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5.
