The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) used its 66th Annual Convention to outline a roadmap for strengthening India’s automotive ecosystem, enhancing global competitiveness and accelerating innovation across the sector.
The discussions took centre stage during Special Plenary Session 3, themed “Building a Resilient Auto Industry Ecosystem for India.” The session focused on the need to build a stronger and more adaptable automotive industry capable of responding to global shifts in technology, investment, supply chains and consumer demand.
Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, highlighted the growing importance of international collaboration in building a resilient automotive ecosystem.
“Technology, investment, components, talent and customers increasingly go beyond borders, making resilience a necessity. For India, strong and trusted international partnerships are critical to building this resilience. These partnerships widen access to markets and help Indian companies become more globally competitive,” Dalela said.
Anurag Jain, CEO, NITI Aayog, Government of India, pointed to the ongoing reforms in the automotive sector as an opportunity for India to strengthen its position in global value chains.
“The current reforms in the industry create a huge opportunity for India to become part of the global value chain. With new innovations emerging globally, we need to keep pace with technological developments, strengthen our domestic capabilities and ensure that we remain competitive in world markets,” Jain said.
The session also underlined the importance of innovation and domestic capability development in preparing the Indian automotive industry for future challenges and opportunities.
K N Radhakrishnan, Chairman, SIAM Two-Wheeler CEOs Council and Director & CEO, TVS Motor Company, delivered the closing remarks, stressing that continued innovation will be central to creating a resilient, competitive and future-ready automotive ecosystem in India.
The discussions at the SIAM Convention highlighted that stronger global partnerships, technological advancement, domestic capability building and sustained innovation will remain critical to India’s ambition of establishing a globally competitive automotive industry.
