
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, organized the 3rd edition of the Green Plate EV Rally at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Conducted under SIAM’s विद्युतीकरण (Electrification) initiative, the rally aimed to promote awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of electric vehicles (EVs) compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, while encouraging their widespread adoption as a key solution for sustainable mobility in India.
With the theme “Boosting Customer Confidence in Automotive Electrification,” the Green Plate EV Rally was flagged off by Smt. Rekha Gupta, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi, as the Chief Guest, along with Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Industries, Food & Supplies, Government of NCT of Delhi, as the Guest of Honour, in the presence of other dignitaries from the government and the automotive industry.
Showcasing the growing strength of India’s EV ecosystem, the rally witnessed the participation of 181 vehicles from 18 OEMs across categories including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, cars, buses and trucks, underscoring technological advancements and rising consumer confidence in electric mobility.
On this occasion Chief Guest Smt. Rekha Gupta, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi, welcomed the EV manufacturers to the Delhi market to bring a variety of vehicles to achieve 100% EV transportation target by the end of 2026. She further added “Delhi has always been a focal point of opportunities, attracting people from across India. And in order to cater to their requirements we are actively working to reduce air pollution and other gaps. I invite EV manufacturers to partner with us in this mission of building a cleaner and greener Delhi. At the same time, I urge citizens to embrace electric mobility so that every third vehicle on our roads is electric.”
At the EV Rally, Guest of Honour, Sardar Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest & Wildlife, Industries, Food & Supplies, Government of NCT of Delhi, thanked SIAM for its initiatives. He emphasised, “A progressive country is one that advances in sustainability and moves toward net-zero goals – a vision also championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Speaking on the event, Mr. Prashant K Banerjee, Executive Director, SIAM highlighted, “EVs are not the future trend, they’re prevailing now, and they form the foundation of a Sustainable India, and integrated with the initiative of safe roads it’ll further strengthen our motto. Our honourable dignitaries are not only doing well for making the roads safer and sustainable but also encouraging manufacturers and buyers for using EVs with the help of favourable policies, equating infrastructure and better offerings.”
The event also included other prominent industry leaders who shared their insights on the electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure in the country. The panelists included Mr Amarendra Kishore Singh, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Govt of India; Mr Ajay Chaudhry, IPS- Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Delhi Police; Mr Mahmood Ahmed, Additional Secretary, MoRTH; Ms Niharika Rai, Secretary and Transport Commissioner, Govt of NCT of Delhi; Dr Shikha Juyal, Economist, NITI Aayog; Mr Sushant Naik, Chairman, SIAM Electric Mobility Group; Mr Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM.
