The first-ever BMW XM has been launched in India at a staggering price of Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom), effectively making it the most expensive BWM SUV in the country. The completely built-up unit (CBU) is available for bookings at BMW dealership network. Deliveries will commence from May 2023 onwards.
The first-ever XM is the first standalone M model since the BMW M1. Like the legendary mid-engined sports car M1, the XM has been developed fully independently, with no conceptual baseline to be found in the BMW model range.
The SUV’s powertrain consists of a plug-in hybrid system that makes use of a V8 petrol engine as well as an electric motor. The engine is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 unit that produces 489 hp of power, while the electric drivetrain adds in another 197 hp. The combined power output of the system is rated at 653 hp.
The M Hybrid powertrain also puts out an impressive 800 Nm of torque, helping the SUV dash from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds with the help of the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission on offer. The power is sent to all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive all-wheeldrive system with a rear-biased setup.
What’s more, the XM gets three different modes – Hybrid, Electric and eControl. The fully-electric setting can be selected for cruising up to speeds of 140 kmph, with a total range of 82-88 km as per the WLTP cycle. There’s a 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted in the car’s underbody capable of AC charging at up to 7.4 kW.
