Volvo Car India has unveiled its all-electric SUV C40 Recharge in India, which will be launched in August, and deliveries will start in September. It will be the company’s second electric offering in India after its fully electric XC40 Recharge launched last year. The Volvo C40 Recharge EV price will be announced in August 2023 and deliveries will begin in September 2023.

In 2018, Volvo Car India sold 2,600 units. Last year it sold around 1,800 units in the domestic market. Asked if the company could cross-record sales this year, Volvo Car India Managing Director Jyoti Malhotra, said, “We want to cross it. I am very confident from the demand side, but there are still constraints from the supply side.”

He said that the supply chain constraints mostly have to do with semiconductors, adding that the average waiting period is about three months across models. The EVs will play a significant role in closing on the record sales this year.

“The way we are doing business, we started our first electric car last year with the XC40 Recharge, and now we are bringing the C40 Recharge. This will help us to improve the market, and we are very confident that this will help us add new customers to buy electric cars,” he said. Malhotra further added, “Within our own portfolio, we are now close to 27 percent of total sales coming from EVs.”

The Volvo C40 Recharge EV sports a closed-off front fascia, LED headlamps, and vertical LED tail lamps. A coupe version of the XC40 Recharge, the Volvo C40 Recharge EV sits on 19-inch five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels.

The Volvo C40 Recharge EV will come equipped with an array of features, such as a 12.3-inch driver display, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, four-way power adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, a power-adjustable passenger seats, Suede textile/Microtech upholstery, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and more. Other interior features include keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, a gear lever knob, and a panoramic sunroof. The infotainment unit is co-developed with Google and boasts of in-built services like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store.

The Volvo C40 Recharge EV is powered by a 78kWh lithium-ion battery that offers a WLTP-certified range of 530 km on a single charge. Offered in a single AWD version and the dual-electric motor setup, the electric SUV produces a peak power of 408 hp and a max torque of 660 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 180 km/h.

The C40 Recharge would be imported as completely knocked down units and assembled at the company’s Bengaluru plant as is being done with the XC40 Recharge. Volvo Cars’ current India portfolio comprises fully electric XC40 Recharge, SUVs XC90, XC60, and XC40, and sedan S90.

The company is offering the C40 Recharge EV in six color options, including Crystal White, Onyx Black, Fusion Red, Cloud Blue, Sage Green, and Fjord Blue.
