Tata, Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki prepare for major electric SUV launches in India

Mahindra, Tata, and Maruti Suzuki are set to launch new electric SUVs—including the XEV 9S, Sierra EV, and e Vitara—expanding India’s rapidly growing EV market with advanced features, multiple battery options, and long-range capabilities.

India’s electric SUV segment is set for a major shake-up as Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki gear up to unveil new EV models across multiple segments in the coming weeks.

Mahindra XEV 9S

Mahindra will lead the lineup with the debut of the XEV 9S on November 27, marking its first three-row electric SUV built on the INGLO platform—the same architecture that supports the XEV 9e and BE 6.

Expected to feature 59kWh and 79kWh battery options, the XEV 9S sports a design similar to the XEV 9e, with a connected LED light bar and distinctive triangular LED headlamps.

Inside, it offers a premium tech-loaded cabin with a triple-screen layout, Harman Kardon sound system, memory-function driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and sliding second-row seats. Safety and tech highlights include Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, and a 360-degree camera. Full details will be revealed at the launch.

Tata Sierra EV

Following the ICE Sierra’s launch on November 25, Tata Motors is preparing to showcase the much-awaited Sierra EV later this year.

While battery specifications remain unconfirmed, the Sierra EV is likely to borrow the 55kWh and 65kWh packs from the Curvv EV and Harrier EV. Teasers show the EV closely mirrors its ICE counterpart but adopts a closed grille design exclusive to electric models.

Premium features such as a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, ventilated seats, and a JBL audio system are expected to be carried over.

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara

Maruti Suzuki will make its entry into the electric SUV category with the launch of the e Vitara on December 2. Manufactured in India for domestic and international markets, the model has already begun exports—with 2,900+ units shipped to 12 European countries in August.

The e Vitara will offer two battery options:

49kWh battery with a 144bhp front motor

61kWh battery with a 174bhp front motor

The larger variant will also feature an AWD version with an additional 65bhp rear motor, achieving 184bhp total output and 300Nm torque. Expected range: 500+ km.

Key features include a 10.1-inch infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital display, fixed-glass sunroof, Harman audio setup, ventilated seats, and versatile 40:20:40 split rear seating.

These three upcoming launches highlight a strong expansion of electric SUV offerings from India’s top automakers, catering to diverse consumer needs in the rapidly growing EV market.
