Western Zone leads India’s vehicle sales across segments in Q3 FY25–26; Maharashtra and U.P dominate key categories:SIAM

India’s automotive industry recorded strong momentum in Q3 FY2025–26, with Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh emerging as key growth drivers. The Western Zone led vehicle sales across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and three-wheelers, according to SIAM’s latest state-wise data.

India’s automobile market recorded strong sales momentum during the third quarter of FY2025–26, with the Western Zone emerging as the leading contributor across all major vehicle segments. According to the latest state and Union Territory-wise sales data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles collectively witnessed robust demand between October and December 2025.

Passenger vehicle segment led by Maharashtra

Passenger vehicle sales in India reached 12.76 lakh units during Q3 FY2025–26. The Western Zone accounted for the largest share, contributing 4.21 lakh units to the national total.

Maharashtra emerged as the top-performing state in this category, recording passenger vehicle sales of 1.58 lakh units during the quarter. Uttar Pradesh secured the second position, followed by Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, highlighting strong demand across both western and southern markets.

Uttar Pradesh tops two-wheeler sales

The two-wheeler segment continued to dominate overall automotive volumes, with total sales touching 56.96 lakh units nationwide during the quarter. Once again, the Western Zone led regional performance, registering sales of 19.06 lakh units.

Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest two-wheeler sales in the country at 8.62 lakh units in Q3 FY2025–26. Maharashtra followed closely, while Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Bihar also featured among the leading markets for two-wheeler demand.

Gujarat leads three-wheeler demand

India’s three-wheeler market recorded total sales of 2.15 lakh units during the October–December period. The Western Zone remained the strongest contributor, accounting for 0.68 lakh units.

Gujarat emerged as the leading state in the segment with sales of 0.25 lakh units. Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra followed in second and third positions respectively, while Karnataka and Bihar completed the list of top-performing markets.

Commercial vehicle sales driven by industrial hubs

Commercial vehicle sales reached 2.90 lakh units nationally in Q3 FY2025–26. The Western Zone again dominated regional performance with 1.11 lakh units sold during the quarter.

Maharashtra recorded the highest commercial vehicle sales at 0.46 lakh units, reflecting strong industrial and logistics activity in the state. Gujarat ranked second, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

Western Zone maintains consistent leadership

Across all vehicle categories, the data highlighted the Western Zone’s sustained leadership in India’s automotive landscape. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar consistently emerged as key contributors, underlining the growing regional diversity and strength of demand supporting the country’s automotive industry growth trajectory.
