The two all-electric concept cars developed specifically for China — VENUS Concept and EARTH Concept — mark the beginning of Hyundai’s new China-focused EV strategy.

Hyundai Motor Company has officially launched its all-electric IONIQ lineup brand in China, marking a significant step in the company’s electric mobility strategy for the world’s largest automotive market.

The announcement was made in Beijing, where Hyundai unveiled two new concept cars during the IONIQ brand launch event held ahead of the Auto China 2026 scheduled for April 24.

In addition to showcasing the concept models, Hyundai Motor also outlined its strategy to strengthen its presence in China by expanding the IONIQ brand beyond vehicles into a broader mobility ecosystem. The company aims to deliver a more comprehensive electric mobility experience, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and growth in the Chinese EV market.

The two all-electric concept cars developed for China — the VENUS Concept, a trend-setting sedan, and the EARTH Concept, a dependable family SUV — signal the beginning of this new chapter. Both concepts highlight Hyundai Motor’s readiness for China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

“Starting with the two concept cars unveiled today, we will continue to present products that reflect deep insight into Chinese customers and our genuine commitment to this market. Built on IONIQ’s uncompromising principles of world-class safety and quality, we will soon introduce production models that seamlessly combine the smart driving and smart cabin experiences that Chinese consumers demand.” – Li Fenggang, President at Beijing Hyundai Motor Company

Hyundai Motor Company’s IONIQ is the company’s dedicated all-electric vehicle lineup, built on globally recognized models such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Hyundai IONIQ 6 and Hyundai IONIQ 9. The brand has gained global recognition for innovation, design, and quality, further strengthened by multiple wins at the World Car Awards, including top honors for the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.

High-performance variants such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and Hyundai IONIQ 6 N have also enhanced the brand’s electric performance credentials, with the IONIQ 6 N recently named the 2026 World Performance Car.

For the Chinese market, Hyundai plans to evolve IONIQ beyond just a product lineup into a broader mobility ecosystem tailored to local customer preferences. While maintaining global standards in safety and quality, the brand will incorporate localized technologies, services, and user experiences suited to China’s rapidly growing NEV market.

As part of this localized approach, future IONIQ models in China will adopt a unique naming strategy inspired by planets, symbolizing a customer-centric “IONIQ universe” where each vehicle revolves around user needs.

Hyundai Motor Company introduced two new IONIQ concept vehicles — VENUS Concept and EARTH Concept — as part of its China-focused EV strategy, previewing the design direction for future models.

The VENUS concept is a sleek, futuristic sedan inspired by the brightness and elegance of its planetary namesake. It features a single-curve silhouette, lightweight roof structure, transparent spoiler, and a ‘Radiant Gold’ exterior finish. Inside, the driver-focused cockpit includes layered ambient lighting, premium materials, and a playful ‘Lumi’ character designed to enhance user interaction.

The EARTH concept, positioned as a bold family SUV, emphasizes strength and comfort. Finished in ‘Aurora Shield,’ it combines sharp edges with sculpted surfaces and rugged elements like skid plates and exposed bolts. The interior offers ‘air-hug’ seats, calming ambient lighting inspired by nature, and hidden design details including Beijing-themed patterns and a playful ‘Aero’ character.

Hyundai also previewed China-specific technologies, including locally developed autonomous driving systems and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) solutions tailored to local market needs. The company reinforced its customer-centric strategy with the “Open Your Universe” brand message, with more details to be revealed at Auto China 2026 in Beijing.
