Hyundai Motor Group has signed its third memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Michelin, strengthening their long-term partnership to accelerate innovation in tire technology for the future mobility landscape. The new agreement builds on earlier MOUs from 2017 and 2022.
- Co-developing extreme low-rolling-resistance tires to enhance fuel efficiency and high-performance tires for improved handling and safety
- Improving tire technology for premium EVs, supporting high performance, safety, and extended driving range
- Developing a virtual tire engineering system for off-road applications
- Advancing SmartGrip technology to boost braking performance and overall efficiency
This strategic partnership aims to meet the growing demands of electric and autonomous vehicles, including higher load capacity, superior performance, and sustainable mobility solutions.
“Through the third phase of technological collaboration with Michelin, we expect to achieve tire technology innovations that will lead the future mobility market,” said Yongsuk Shin, Vice President and Head of Genesis Engineering Design Center at Hyundai Motor Group, “By leveraging the specialized capabilities of both companies in mobility and tire technologies, we will utilize advanced solutions.”
The MOU signed in 2017 contributed to the development of tire technologies for the Hyundai IONIQ 5, while the 2022 agreement achieved significant progress in tire wear prediction and braking performance enhancement.
Building on these achievements, Hyundai Motor Group and Michelin aim to accelerate technological innovation and deliver breakthrough tire technologies for future mobility.
