Bentley Motors has unveiled the Bentayga X Concept at the iconic FAT Ice Race in Zell am See, signalling both the brand’s exploration of a more off-road-focused Bentayga and the start of a new multi-year partnership with FAT International.
Developed as a concept study, the Bentayga X Concept is designed to gather feedback for a potential enhanced off-road variant of the luxury SUV, while showcasing Bentley’s capability beyond performance and comfort. While the standard Bentayga is known for its blend of luxury, refinement and versatility—and variants such as the Bentayga Speed and Bentayga Extended Wheelbase focus on performance and rear-seat luxury respectively—the Bentayga X Concept explores the third pillar of the range: extreme off-road capability.
The concept is based on the Bentayga Speed, powered by a 650 PS 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, paired with permanent four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It features air suspension along with Bentley Dynamic Ride, the brand’s 48-volt active anti-roll control system.
To enhance its off-road credentials, the Bentayga X Concept features a significantly altered stance. It rides on forged single-piece 22-inch wheels developed by specialist Brixton, wrapped in high-profile off-road tyres. Track width has been increased by 120 mm for improved stability, while ride height has been raised by 55 mm, boosting suspension travel and ground clearance. Wheel arches have been extended outward by 40 mm to accommodate the changes, resulting in a wading depth of over 550 mm and ground clearance of nearly 310 mm.
The exterior design remains purpose-driven, incorporating roof-mounted storage and four auxiliary spotlights to support extended off-road adventures. Demonstrating its added cargo capability, the concept carries an electric Bambino-sized go-kart—used in the FAT Karting League—on the roof. These additions bring the overall vehicle height to 2.49 metres. At the rear, the Akrapovič titanium sports exhaust remains a standout feature, complemented by twin towing eyes at the front.
Bentley at the FAT Ice Race
The FAT Ice Race is a celebration of car culture, blending motorsport, exhibitions and lifestyle experiences. Bentley’s strong presence at the event marks the beginning of its partnership with FAT International, which will also see the brand participate in upcoming FAT Ice Race events in Big Sky, Montana, and a 24-hour takeover of FAT Mankei in Austria later this year.
Alongside the Bentayga X Concept, Bentley showcased several of its latest and most distinctive models. These included Travis Pastrana’s uniquely liveried Bentley Supersports, the newly announced Continental GTC S, and a global dynamic debut of the Continental GT S on ice. Also on display were the Bentayga Speed and the Speed Six Continuation Series Car Zero from Mulliner.
Car culture icon and broadcaster Chris Harris took part in the Skijöring event, driving a Bentayga Speed while towing Norwegian freestyle skier Hedvig Wessel. The Continental GT S was piloted by French racing driver Laura Villars, while Bentley’s heritage icon, the Speed Six, was driven by Mike Sayer, Head of Bentley’s Heritage Collection.
