JSW Motors partners Tata Indian Institute of Skills to build future-ready talent pipeline for NEV manufacturing

JSW Motors has partnered with Tata Indian Institute of Skills to build a future-ready workforce for electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing. The collaboration includes specialised EV and advanced manufacturing training programmes supporting the company’s new greenfield plant in Maharashtra.

JSW Motors Limited, the new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturing arm of the JSW Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tata Indian Institute of Skills to develop a structured technical talent pipeline ahead of the commissioning of its greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

The collaboration represents the first step in JSW Motors’ broader strategy to establish an industry-leading skilling ecosystem designed to support next-generation vehicle manufacturing. The initiative aims to create workforce readiness beginning at the shopfloor level and extending across the entire automotive manufacturing value chain.

Under the partnership, a JSW Motors-specific curriculum will be co-developed with Tata IIS, focusing on critical competencies such as electric vehicle systems, industrial automation, welding technologies, CNC operations, battery systems, and advanced manufacturing processes. JSW Motors will retain hiring oversight as well as curriculum validation authority, ensuring the programme remains aligned with evolving production requirements and plant ramp-up timelines.

Commenting on the initiative, Rupam Singh, Chief Human Resources Officer at JSW Motors Limited, emphasised the strategic importance of workforce development. He noted that skilling is not merely a human resources function but a core business priority, particularly as the company scales its manufacturing operations. The collaboration with Tata IIS, he added, provides structured capability building, industry-relevant curriculum, and execution discipline aligned with JSW Motors’ operational timelines.

The partnership is also expected to serve as a transitional step toward the company’s long-term objective of establishing its own world-class training academy to support India’s growing NEV manufacturing ecosystem.

Tata IIS was selected following a competitive evaluation of leading skilling institutions across India. The institution differentiated itself through industry-grade training infrastructure, a strong OEM engagement track record, and application-based training methodology well-suited to the demands of modern EV manufacturing. The collaboration also builds on JSW Foundation’s existing relationship with Tata IIS across broader Group-level skilling initiatives.

“At Tata IIS, our mission is to solve the nation’s skill challenges by creating a next generation workforce that is not just job-ready, but future-ready. This partnership with JSW Motors is a significant step toward that goal. By designing bespoke programs in Advanced Manufacturing, we are equipping India’s youth with the high-precision skills required to drive the next generation of automotive excellence and ensuring a robust, consistent talent pipeline for our industry partners.” Venguswamy Ramaswamy, CEO Designate, Tata Indian Institute of Skills.

JSW Motors’ skilling vision extends well beyond the factory floor. The company’s long-term roadmap encompasses supplier and vendor partners, dealer networks, and end customers, reflecting its commitment to building a fully EV-ready ecosystem. As the business scales, JSW Motors intends to establish a dedicated, in-house training academy anchored to advanced manufacturing and future mobility technologies, positioning the company as a capability leader in step with its manufacturing ambitions.
