
Former Ashok Leyland Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vipin Sondhi has been elected to the Supervisory Board of Daimler Truck Holding AG, strengthening the global commercial vehicle giant’s board leadership.
Sondhi shared the announcement through a LinkedIn post, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity. “Honoured to have been elected to the Supervisory Board of Daimler Truck Holding AG. It is a privilege to join the Global Board of a company with such a strong global legacy in commercial vehicles, technology and industrial innovation,” he stated. He further added that he looks forward to contributing to the company’s long-term growth journey while learning from fellow board members and the management team.
With decades of experience across the automotive, construction equipment and manufacturing sectors, Sondhi brings extensive industry expertise to the role. He served as MD and CEO of Ashok Leyland from December 2019 to December 2021, steering the company through the challenging pandemic period. Before that, he spent nearly 14 years as MD and CEO of JCB India between 2006 and 2019, where he played a key role in strengthening the company’s presence in India’s construction equipment industry. He has also previously led Tecumseh India as its MD and CEO.
Currently, Sondhi serves as Chairperson of the Board at NBQP – National Board for Quality Promotion, a position he has held since October 2022. He has also served as Chairperson of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Sondhi holds an MBA degree and is also a mechanical engineering graduate from IIT Delhi.
